22oz bottle obtained in Nederland Co.

Pours hazy gold with plenty of dense, whipped head of white. A partial skim coat sustains throughout the glass with plenty of torn lacework.

Aromatics lead off with candied citrus fruit and pine. Apples, cloves and light bubblegum follow through. Orangey with pine-studded apples.

Medium bodied with a sticky, tacky mouthfeel.

Lush, sugar-dusted fruit starts the palate. Clove-spiked apples and some sweet malt follow through.

Finishes with lingering sappy fruit, bitterness to balance, and a mild warmth.

Very nice, but a bit on the sweet side. Dry it up and we have a fantastic beer.

Very cloudy honey/apricot colored brew with some small yeasty bits slowly sinking and a very nice off-white head that retains very well , producing some decent lacing.
The aroma is mellow but complex with caramel malt, citrus, pine resin, notes of spices and tropical fruit.
The taste is along the same lines but somewhat more assertive. There is so much going on here that it's hard to describe. Up front there is a brief caramel sweetness quickly overtaken by a blast of piney/citrus hops and a spicy, peppery background - coriander, cloves, pepper - all blending in with what seems to be notes of pineapple, mango, quava, who knows what else? The finish brings back a lingering blast of pine resin and spice along with some pleasant alcohol warmth. This is really a winter IPA. For several reasons this one should be enjoyed slowly.
The mouthfeel is amazing for an IPA, medium to full bodied with an almost oily texture.
Overall, This was a very interesting and enjoyable brew, not for the faint hearted lager lovers.

22oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, tin head of white foam. It smelled of caramel, bubblegum and citrus. Sweet toasted caramel and orange with a yeasty kick.

Appearance is clear light golden, with a small, thick bubbled head that dissappeared immediately. Aroma is dominated by fruity Belgian yeast. For a double IPA the hop aroma is almost nonexistent, with a slight grapefruit and resin. Taste is a light malt that gives way to a strong, tart grapefruit taste, with hints of apple and pear from the yeast. Mouthfeel is light with low carbonation and a slight solventy alcohol. Finishes with a strong lingering bitterness and grapefruit flavor. Overall this is average at best. Perceived bitterness much lower than the 130 on the bottle would suggest

Look:
Very cloudy, but a very interesting tan/orange color. This beer is very bubbly coming from a 22 oz bottle with a 3 finger head (medium pour). The head retention is phenomenal with loads of bubbles rushing up to replenish the supply.

Smell:
Nice punch of citrus and pine hops at first. Slight tart fruit hints. Buttery, savory, and caramel malt smelling.

Taste:
Hop bitterness is substantial at first but is fairly short-lived. Sweet malt, caramel, and butter flavors quickly come in. There is then some tart fruit flavors (apple / mango), and citrus, that push to the front. This brew dries out a bit, but overall, remains sweet and syrupy throughout.

Feel:
Medium+ feel. It seems to occupy a lot of space in the mouth as it remains fizzy and never really dies down. A bit on the thick side for style and quite oily.

Overall:
Very aromatic and flavorful. This seems like a more savory and fruity version of a double IPA. There doesn't seem to be much evidence of "Belgian" other than some orange undertones. There are no real spice/coriander taste or Belgian yeast tang.

This starts off looking pretty and smelling like a dream.

Then the taste follows very boozy with a huge not quite Belgian burp.

It's a huge brew that you should sip slowly. Highly recommended.

12.7 oz. Bottle
BOTTLED: 07-09-16

Almost 2 years on this bottle.

Poured into a Tree House glass a dark cloudy amberish color, pretty nice carbonation, with a really nice thick/creamy two-finger off-white head, which leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, kinda yeasty, with some citrus. The taste is hoppy, malty, yeasty, citrusy, slight tart. Medium body, ABV is hidden pretty nicely, with a dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a different brew, pretty tasty though.

22 oz. Bomber

Poured into a chalice a very nice slightly cloudy golden amber color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some islands and thick sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, slightly yeasty, spicy/peppery. The taste is very nice, hoppy, nice yeast note, citrusy, slight spice. Medium body, I like their take on the style, which is alittle too much on the spices or whatever, which makes it sometimes to hot. RNB does a very nice job. Overall, this is a very tasty brew, would buy again. Recommended!

A: Cloudy deep copper; tons of head. Looks great.
S: Belgian yeast and hops...lemony citrus and other fruits, also some serious earthy smells.
T: Slightly sweet, not quite as much as a real Belgian IPA. A lot of the flavors I don't like as much are more prevalent in this beer, and less apparent are the ones I prefer. I don't get the malty sweetness I would like, and the bitterness hangs on for too long. Kind of bites the tongue.
M: Smooth, slightly viscous and coating. Unexpected.
O: The best examples of a Belgian IPA have sweetness in a good way and this one just goes a little off the mark for me. The off flavors are intense and last way too long. Don't get me wrong, it's a good beer and is very drinkable. Just not my thing. Definitely an interesting take on a belgian style.

Appearance: When you pour a Belgian beer you expect to see an impressive head and, on that count, this beer doesn't disappoint; after the bubble show concludes, three fingers linger over the cloudy honey colored liquid; impressive lacing action

Smell: The Belgian yeast elements are powerful in the aroma, with clove, white pepper and coriander as well as sugary malts; juicy, tropical fruit tones compete but fall short

Taste: With the incredibly high IBUs in this beer, the Belgian elements jut forward but are quickly overshadowed by the bitterness; once the initial onslaught is over, both the Belgian and bitter aspects of the aroma emerge; in the finish, there is also a balsa wood tone that precedes a dry aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate but prickly carbonation

Overall: Well, this beer is aptly named, as it is very hard to pinpoint both the Belgian and IPA aspects in this tug of war on the tastebuds; interesting to contemplate but not that enjoyable to consume is where I come out on this one

Thanks, eawolff99, for the opportunity

This beer was the only one of the few I tried at River North that was really disappointing. The bitterness was extremely restrained and there was barely any Belgian yeast character, which left me confused based on the style of this beer.
