The caramel malts really come through in the appearance. The liquid is a deep orange color that is a bit cloudy. A nice frothy head forms that is off-white in color and has solid retention. The lacing left on the glass is more than adequate.

The smell is average for the style. It is difficult to detect the different notes, however I can sense herbal and floral hop notes. There's some candied citrus as well.

The flavor is full of pine and herbal notes. The bitterness is rather tame for an IBU rating of 90. The 9% alcohol is well hidden, which is the best aspect.

The feel is solidly in the middle and does not have any slick oils.

Overall, this is a solid Imperial IPA from a small town brewery. With the abundance of IPA selections out there, I think it's hard to stand out. This one does not disappoint and I think hop heads will agree. The flavor is an excellent showcase of hops, however I cannot taste anything beyond the hop profile. Some more balance in the flavor would get a solid 4 rating from me. I can say the same about the smell, but I would also like to experience more vibrant scents. Big thanks to my cousin-in-laws that brought this to me from Evansville. They told me that Tin Man now has a new brewer and this is one of the new brews. Keep up the excellent work "new guy."

Yep, I was the one who started a very negative thread on this very site concerning "Tin Man." A year has past now, the former head brewer is now gone, and a new era is now underway.

I picked this up at a Liquor Locker store on the East side of Evansville. Sure, I spoke with the beer guy there for a good bit about my experience with the brewery and he wholeheartedly agreed with me. As a matter of fact, he said he had even gotten into some brawl out arguments with some of the employees over the substandard quality of their products.

I decided to trust the guy and purchase a tallboy can of "Overlord" based on his high recommendation.

A: Poured into a short "Monumental Insurance" glass. Fairly clear golden color, but with a slight bit of head and a very sticky head.

S: Sort of a combination of papaya, grapefruit, and orange. Very complex actually.

T: I gave my wife a swig of this as well and even she was impressed at how well the ABV was hidden. Damn, didn't realize it was as high as it was until I was done. Wonderful citrus and whole leaf hop flavor.

M: The sugar content was very low, which impressed me. Low to mid on the carbonation front, and the lacing was ridiculous.

O: Welcome to the new era, "Tin Man." I like ya already.

Served from 16 oz can. Apperance is clear golden with thin white head. Nose is ripe full of c-hops. Nice floral aromas with resinous notes, citrus, and pine. Smells leaps and bounds better than the other offerings I have tasted from tinman. Some caramel malts show up in the back with lots of grapefruit as well. Taste has large amount of bittering hops, notes of lemon and grapefruit come through the strongest. Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated. Overall, much improved from the other tin man beers, maybe they're on to something.

Awesome beer, very well balanced for a very smooth initial taste and a perfect aftertaste that doesn't linger. Not super filling. It is going to be offered locally soon. Tin Man brewery has a great atmosphere and very knowledgeable staff. Food is good. So far their entire offering has been a great fine.

Poured into Tin Man goblet at brewpub a nice amber with solid lace.

Aroma is tropical fruit, pineapple, mango....very good, refreshing start (and on a warm summer afternoon, too). Score some points with aroma.

Taste is mild and balanced. Plenty of hops in here, but not the hop-bomb I'd expect somehow. Still, this proved to be a very enjoyable and tasty IPA. I will definitely revisit on draft, and pick up a 4-pack of cans once available.

And this is a review of the canned version, finally appearing in about November of 2013:

This is a stronger 9%, rather than the 7-something percent of the draft version, but it doesn't fare quite as well.

Pours a clean light amber, with a rich head of white suds. Beautiful lace.

Nose is citrus hops, a little caramel in the malts. Pleasing, to be sure.

Taste is strong and full-bodied, with hops up front -- citrus, grapefruit, and some pine notes.

Decent balance, with plenty of malts in there -- in fact, this seems really heavy on the malts, to the point of being almost cloying and muddy. Much better in a pint glass from draft.
