Released in February at Systembolaget, Sweden in a 650 ml bottle. ABV 12%
Dark brown to black, clear beer with a four finger high beige-brown head. Nice retention.
Nose: Strong, dark coffe, smoke, roasted malt, licorice, roasted grain and soy sauce.
Taste: Sweet malt, salt, roasted malt, licorice, ash, pepper, spices, brown sugar and ash. I have no idea what Horopito taste like! The brewer at Garage Project in New Zealand has used this local ancient herb with healing properties in this beer! So its like my medicine now?
Just to be sure I get totally healed I take another sip...
A little google-session later I know that Horopito also is known as New Zealand pepper tree - So that's where the spiciness in the beer comes from!
Mouthfeel: Aggressive strength (it is 12% ABV) both from the ABV and from dark roasted malt and of course from Horopito leaf.
Conclusion: Great smoked taste with a spiciness from the Horopito leaf that together with the high sweetness hides the high ABV.
On the other hand it's the sweetness that makes this beer a no go for me... TOO much sweetness! And I usually like sweet stouts...

Very dark appearance it's a good head and plenty of carbonation. Aroma is coffee and a hint of chocolate. Very nice smooth flavor of coffee and chocolate without any hint of alcohol. After two weeks of travel throughout New Zeland, this was one of the better beers that I found.
