the single hop lends itself well to this beer. i do like the "c" hops a lot so it's right up my alley. the single hop doesn't always work but i think in this case the cascade hops hold up on it's own. it has a citrusy - spicy, almost peppery aroma. the bitter characteristic is not overpowering and lingers nicely.

Poured a deep dark orange color with a straw/tan head. Not exactly what I expected this beer to look like at all. The smell had some hints of citrus rind but was a little flat scented. Not very perfumy or aromatic. This one was a disappointment. A far cry from Chinooknation. Very thick/slick mouthfeel that was resinous. The taste was just bitter. There was no aromatic hopping to this. I got no nuance from this hop. Did not represent Cascade hops well. Just over the top altogether and a mess.

Bottled 1-8-14, batch 1, 8.3% ABV.
A: A cloudy orange pour. Very tall, very frothy and effervescent tan head. Head fades out pretty slowly, not a lot of lacing. Just some very light and fluffy bits here and there. Great head retention, however.
S: Juicy citrus. Mainly orange I would say. Bits of grapefruit and lemons too?
T: Yup. Lots of juicy orange and grapefruit. Somewhat bitter but also spicy too, like black pepper spicy - maybe the belgian yeast influence. Lots of cloves to back it up and a dry, crackery malt (like saltines). Wave of bitterness in the finish with lots of grapefruit and orange peel. Dry, lingering crackery aftertaste with bitter grapefruit floating around.
M: Medium bodied, very dry.
O: Pretty much what you'd expect. Seemingly more bitter or dry (or both) than the other versions but maybe because this one is fresher than most of the others. Quite bitter, loaded with that great citric acid-like bitterness from start to finish. Hugely drying and bitter aftertaste. Sharp flavors, I like it.
