Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for giving me a can of this

Consumed 2/24/14

Appearance: Pours a dark, yet clear, amber - some burnt gold and brown tones as well - pours with an average-sized, beige head that fades rather quickly - fades to a nonexistent head (I blame the salt), but manages to keep a slight collar that leaves some lacing

Smell: Amber malts and the distinct Night Shift yeast strain - lightly toasted amber malts, and some caramel - more salt than salted caramel - I didn't expect the salt to emit much of a aroma, but it does - like, toasted, salty biscuits - nice vanilla bean as well - some malty sweetness for balance - smells decidedly "Night Shift" with their vaguely musty yeast

Taste: While the salt makes this beer smell a bit odd, it works in the actual flavor - amber and caramel malts - toasted malts and grains finish with a light salty character that does not dominate the overall flavor - an undercurrent of some nice vanilla bean flavor - nicely balanced overall

Mouthfeel: About as light as medium can get, nice carbonation, smooth, finishes with salt

Overall: Pronounced "Mah-bul-head"

Since when does Night Shift can beers? Making a salted caramel beer is somewhat of an odd concept, and I'm not sure if they actually pulled it off. There are some nice caramel and salt flavors, but mostly this just tastes like an interesting twist on an amber ale. Bonus points for the tallboy. Bonus points for a can that kind of looks like a can of Heady Topper.

darkish amber/brown color with not a terrible amount of head. the smell is interesting - not the best part of the beer, but definitely caramel and vanilla and the smell of the sea a little in there. Dominant vanilla and toffee notes, i pick up on the salted caramel feel. as it warms the saltiness becomes more dominant especially at the back of the mouth. the beer is tightly carbonated with little tight bubbles. all in all, an unusual beer that i'm glad to have had but will not search out again.

Well, not sure what to expect from this, Night Shift sours are phenomenal, but their non-sours are usually so-so or worse. This looks like it could be interesting, but not sure how an amber ale with vanilla would be. But also love tall boy cans of beer, and semi dated "Canned in Q1 2014"

Pours a nice off-white creamy slight fluffy 1 finger head that starts to fade at a med pace, little whisps of lacing, over a darker mahogany chestnut brown beer, somewhat clear on the thin parts of the glass and some light getting through nicely.

Nose is pretty meh, first thing I get is yeast, yeasty aroma with some herbal earthy hops, a quite herbal grassy chewy like hop presence with a little briny note, no vanilla.

Taste does bring a little vanilla at least, not much though, then the hops come through, again with that herbal earthy grassy chewy hop note, mild vegetal hop too, prob my least fav style of hops, with mild to fair bitterness. It turns a little briny with the spiciness of the hops and mild salty component, and a hint of a yeasty note. A touch of a toasty brown malt with touch of mild candy sweetness, with some caramel but not a lot, and a little smooth. Finish is drier with a fairly bitter bite but not much, more herbal vegetal hops with a little spicy component and more of that briny note, no vanilla left and no malts but a little sticky feel.

Mouth is med bod, fairly smooth, a little light on the carbonation.

Overall a big miss IMO, some mild yeast notes, my least fav style of hops that should be in an ESB and not an amber, very very little vanilla or salt, a bit briny tasting, low carbonation, it's hard to even find anything they did right in this one, maybe the nice head and appearance is the only good thing, oh and the can.
