Thanks to ActonBrewer for sending this one. Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a Cycle Brewing goblet.
A: Dark brown, but more translucent than a lot of stouts. Not much in the way of visible carbonation, but still manages a half-finger of tan head - at least briefly.
S: Bright fresh ginger and a lemony citric bite up front. Like lemon chiffon. Some hints of chocolate malt in the background, but most everything else hidden by the ginger.
T: Big fresh ginger, some lemony citric again. Chicory, cacao, and chocolate malts show up as the ginger wallop fades a bit. Ginger and some coriander or lemongrass in the hang.
M: A light body for a stout, though not quite watery. Low carbonation sensation, and the admittedly modest ABV remains well-hidden.
O: I'd like some beer with my ginger, please. Almost all of the stout character is swallowed up under the never-ending assault of ginger. Really not offensive, but nearly completely one note...and that note is not what I'm looking for in a stout.

Poured into a tulip from a 16oz can. Dark brownish appearance with 1" head. Slight roast on the nose. Very slight cacao in the taste and no other of the adjuncts. Very thin mouthfeel. Overall not impressed with this stout considering the description

I would have liked it more if the ginger was not so strong...

interesting beer.
looks thin on the pour, but definitely black enough.
smell: ginger presence is strong. not really sure what chicory root is, but i was smelling something, so I attribute it to that given that's what is advertised on the bottle. definitely chocolate in the nose as well
taste: trying too hard with the spices. was hoping for the taste to be like chocolate covered ginger, but it was a bit all over the place.
feel: way too thin and light to be a stout. feels much more like a spiced chocolate ale than anything else.
overall: would not get again. was splitting the bottle with a friend and let him polish it off after my initial pour.
