Thanks to Kegatron for sharing this one. 750ml corked and caged bottle into a matching Night Shift stemmed glass. The brew appears dark brown to black with mocha head that retains very well with patchy lace.
The smell includes that character of chicory that is earthy with hints of citrus before blending to the roast of the grain and more earth. Slight chocolate appeal and suggestions of coffee.
The taste includes a citrus combination possibly from the chicory and hops. It is also earthen with a bitter charred grain flavor that is slightly leathery. An afterthought of burnt coffee lasts inside the mouth and into the aftertaste.
This is a medium to lighter bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is interesting and enjoyable but carries with it quite a bit of familiarity to the other chicory brew I have consumed. Im not quite sure what the benefit/idea is here. Create a coffee-like brew without coffee/caffeine? In that sense it is somewhat succesful but overall, I dont think this is something I would seek out.
