bottle (5/4/13 on 6/3/13) to night shift sniffer

A: It is bright red it could very well be mistaken for a strawberry-kwiwi mixed drink. It has little to no carbonation or head but it does leave a white lacing outside of the top of the glass. It is completely opaque which really rounds out a unique appearance.

S: Well the first smell that you get is very clearly, strawberries and they are quite pungent and distinguishable. There is some more fruitiness in there but my nose isn't good enough to define kiwi or hibiscus. There is definitely a little bit of funk in there that seems like it would come out more over time.

T: Initially it again has the distinctive taste of liquid strawberries but this is not as strong as the smell and is more subtile and very sweet. There is also come kiwi juiciness in there that clear adds to the strong sour flavor that is very vinegary and acidic but in a good way not like soy sauce though I am defiantly curious to see how this beer develops over time. The hibiscus flowers are actually present in the after taste and do seem to cut the heavy sour acidity.

M: There is a decent amount of light carbonation that helps cut into the sour. it is very light, crisp, tart and sweet all at the same time which makes it pretty drinkable even for its very strong sour taste. It goes down smooth with a very slimy vicious feel down the throat.

O: This is my first beer from Night Shift and I am really impressed I will definitely be back at this brewery as for their beer itself it does live up to my expections but it does not blow me away. The strawberry and kiwi flavors are there but I wish it was not so harsh and vinegary. With that being said I would definitely recommend this beer. (1,727 characters)

Bottled 7/2/13
In a snifter the beer was a beautiful clear ruby red color. There was a small pink head that dissipated quickly.

Mostly a strawberry aroma, as well as a floral/perfumey aroma. Sweet.

Strawberry and kiwi taste. Tart.

This was a great summer beer. Pleasantly tangy, sweet. I could drink a few of these. (318 characters)

Pours a beautiful pink grapefruit color. Thin white head that hangs around. Nice lacing.

Smells of Strawberry and a slight hint of sour with a lemon and vinegar scent. I think I can smell the kiwi but probably wouldn't if I didn't read the bottle.

Taste is strawberry goodness with a touch of tartness. I get a little corn chip flavor in the finish. Very dry. The bottle says notes of sour dough bread but for me it has that frito corn chip flavor. (456 characters)

Poured from the tap at the brewery on September 8th, 2012.

A very rich, hazy, blood-orange colour with minimal head. The smell was very refreshing and sweet with notes of kiwis, strawberries, and flowers. The taste is right in-line with the aromas. Very refreshing kiwi and strawberry, that isn't as sweet as the nose, with a nice floral aftertaste. Slightly tart, but very well balanced with the sweetness and overall very good.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely. (465 characters)

A - Strawberry red with a good amount of carbonation trailing upwards. Rocky white head sits on top

S - Sweet strawberry and kiwi are up front. There is slight passion fruit as well. A light vinegar is in the nose that makes you expect a slight tartness in the taste. However, it's in the back of the nose and is just their slightly

T - Tart lemon and vinegar that gives it the tart sweetart bite you'd expect with a berliner. The strawberry and kiwi come up light near the back to give the beer a nice fruity presence. The fruit is also what lingers on in the finish

MF - Has a tart bite and a surprisingly low amount of carbonation. The finish is rather dry

O - This is a tart Berliner that has a nice sweet and fruit presence that balances, but does not diminish, the tartness you'd expect from a Berliner. (813 characters)

Poured from a bomber into a Night Shift tulip.

A - Pours a deep and thick orange pink, almost like a less transparent pink lemonade. The thin white head dissipates quickly, but some lacing does stick around. All together a bright and pretty beer.

S - Tart and appetizing, almost reminiscent of a Rose or a sweeter Champagne. The aroma also hints at some sweet fruit.

T - Pleasantly sour at the beginning. It's strong but in no way cloying or overbearing. Emerging from the tartness is the Kiwi and Strawberry mentioned on the label. The two elements are balanced well.

M - Extraordinary. Not so thick as to be heavy but with enough of a body to coat the mouth and quench one's thirst. The flavor profile ends with an enticing juiciness that begs for another sip.

O - A great release from the upstart brewery. Apparently they only brewed one batch so I feel lucky to get my hands on a bottle (they were selling it at a local tasting event). Delicious and balanced. Complex enough to savor but refreshing enough to satisfy. (1,029 characters)
