Bottled on 5/28/2013. Poured into an stemmed Offero Omnis glass.

Pours a very bright and clear amber – almost orange, with a small but delicious looking head. There’s a lot going on in the nose. Heavy banana and clove are at the front while an acidic wine smell emerges afterwards. Oak from the barrel is present along with grapes, pear and to a lesser extent, lemon. The aroma is quite perfumey, but not in an off-putting way. One the palate, the flavors in here are just as complex as the nose. Again, banana and clove, but also nutmeg. There’s a pleasant tartness in addition to that common buttery flavor that wine barrels give off, but it’s fairly mild. There’s good carbonation which helps bring out all the flavors in this Tripel. This is a superb offering from Night Shift. I’m looking forward to finding another bottle to see what some age can do to this one.

750ml capped bottle into Tired Hands stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Pours 2 layers of course white bubbles with poor retention. Beer is a clear golden copper. Lacing is spotty and sparse with little stick. Not really much to look at.

Nose is Brett, pineapple, starfruit, citrus, and cane sugar. Mildly aromatic but pretty enticing.

Opens sweet and funky. Notes of grape must, Brett, wood, Belgian yeast florals and cane sugar sweetness. A light bit of grape tartness in the middle complemented by more Brett and yeast. Ends sweet and dry with hints of wood, plastic, and grape skin. Lightly tart aftertaste. The flavors are nice but they don't complement each other well here.

Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively in the mouth and goes down dry and puckering. Finishes dry with a filmy, sticky aftertaste. Really good.

Not every offering from a brewery can be a winner and this one is kind of a dud. Brett + wine makes for a wonderful combination but the body and flavor profile of the tripel just doesn't go with what else is going on.

Cloudy, dirty gold. Lasting head but small. Webby lace.

Smells like a combination of a Belgian Pale Ale and a Framboise.

The taste mimics the smell. The finish is quite sour. High carbonation with a thinnish body.
