some abs variability batch to batch must be, listed a little lower when i had it at the brewery, but that is almost entirely consequential here. this is interesting stuff, and it brings to mind a comment i rarely have with this style, that the chili part really is the best part of it. thats actually more of an indictment of the base beer than a compliment to the pepper part, although i do like the little bit of throat heat nd obvious use of real peppers. i definitely taste jalapeno and habanero in this, citrusy and vegetal, but its not overwhelming. the shame is the base beer, a basic blonde type, but specifically the ferment, this is unclean, off dry, not invisible, which stands in the way of both drinkability and enjoyment, not to mention unmolested pepper pop. soapy to me, lingering, and all of this weirdness without any real flavor or texture from the grain, its like all the good elements are curiously absent. that said, the pepper side is good enough to make this cool, its just i am sad about how it could actually be great and its not. i left a little in my glass when i left the brewery, i wont lie. i want this in a bloody mary, but i also want it to be tidied up and dressed up and ready to be asked out or something, like its stuck in its ugly suit. props for the use of the peppers, but come on with this base beer, you can do better!

Pours a hazy, pale straw color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of chili, pale malt, and a hint of sweet malt. Does not fit the style of a Rye Beer, this is a Chili Beer that has been mislabeled. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level; noticeable heat. Tastes of chili (not particularly fresh or strong), pale malt, and slight sweet malt. Overall, good appearance, but body, blend, and aroma are considerably weak.

On draft at the brewery.
The beer is pale yellow with a mild haze and a small white head. Wheat and cracked pepper in the aroma. Heat really emerges in the flavor, with chili powder and hot pepper. Surprisingly drinkable for a chili beer. Wheat and light citrus up front, then a blast of chili heat. Thin body with light carbonation. A four ounce sample was plenty.

A- A hazy straw yellow, 1 finger head of foam, some lacing
S- Light notes of wheat, citrus, peppers.
T- Light grain flavour with a nice malt presence, hints of citrus, chili peppers start off slowly but man, mid palate on it gets big and after the swallow, there's heaps of heat. The warming in my tummy is very soothing.
M- On the high end of light bodied, low but adequate carbonation.
O- This is a very good chili ale that actually BRINGS the chili taste and heat that a lot of others only promise. Yum!
