Was looking for a place close to the hotel that had a good beer menu as well as good food, and was recommended this place by a local.

Steel City Pizza is located in a fairly non descript strip center, but once you go in it has the feel of a neighborhood bar. When I came in I was greeted promptly by the hostess, I asked to be seated at the bar. The bartender was quite friendly and attentive. The menu is quite extensive, so I asked what was good, the bartender recommended the Italian Combo Sub Sandwich with Onion Rings. The food came out promptly and the sandwich was quite good. The onion rings left something to be desired, they tasted like they could have been from the frozen section of the local grocery store; there is no way that they were hand made in house...

On to the beer menu. There were about 10-12 taps most of which were dedicated to craft beer. Not terribly adventurous in their selections, but a decent selection none the less. I had the Palmetto Espresso Porter (Very Good), and a Stone IPA.

All in all, it was a decent experience, but not enough to blow your hair back. Decent, but not great sandwich. Sub par onion rings. Decent, but not great beer selection. The place was comfortable, but not overly inviting. The best part of the experience was the service. The place would be OK in a pinch, but I would much rather try one of the other local options.

Visited this place for lunch. It's a little less than a mile north of Ashley Phosphate in a nondescript shopping area on the east side of Dorchester Rd.

The shopping area and Steel City itself look pretty new. The interior is mostly brick & wood of a comfortable size, not too large or small. There's an outdoor patio which will probably be great when the weather cools a little in the fall. The bar is separated from the dining area by a shoulder-high brick wall. The dining area has both tables and booths. As you can tell by the name, the decor is centered around Pennsylvania and its teams.

The place was quite busy for lunch with lots of Air Force personnel there. Despite the traffic, our server was efficient and prompt.

The tap list was impressive for a pizza place in greater Charleston. Even though South Carolina eased its beer laws a few years ago, many restaurants have been slow to recognize the interest in craft beers, but not Steel City. There were about ten taps, and all but two were worthy craft, the two being Yuengling and Blue Moon. The Adjunct Lagers didn't take up tap space, thankfully, but were on the bottle list. The rest were a tasty combination of styles and breweries including a local or two, one of which was the Belgian White Thai from Westbrook. There were beers from Founders, Sam Adams, Victory & Stone among others, and styles from pale ales to stouts. Pretty much something for everyone. I ordered a Bell's Two Hearted, which arrived promptly.

The food is basically Italian-based bar food and the menu is extensive. Pizza by the slice or whole pie, calzones, subs, salads, pastas, wings, wraps and something they call weggies which looked to me like paninis, but what do I know? I ordered their signature wedgie, the Godfather, which came with a choice of sides. I chose the pasta salad. The sandwich was quite flavorful and large. Between it and the pasta salad, I could only eat half of the sandwich and took the other half to go. The pasta salad surprised me by having as many ingredients as pasta, which is often not the case.

My beer and sandwich came to about $15 which is par for the course in this area, and a real value IMO for the size of the portion and the craft beer selections. I'm looking forward to a repeat trip to sample their other menu items and beers on tap.
