Stop # 338 on my world brewery tour.
Full disclosure - I am a Cincinnatian of 6 years and confessed Morelerin hater. I'm not of the opinion that history and tradition make industrial pre-prohibition macro lagers any better. Cincinnati needs more good beer, not more reviving of said lagers.
With that being said, the Moerlein Lager House is awesome.
It's second only to the Stone World Bistro & Gardens in terms of jaw-dropping architecture and presence. Right on the banks of the Ohio river between the baseball and football stadium and overlooking a small park you could not ask for a location with a better view. Tall glass walls allow you to easily take in the sights. Large wrap-around decks make it even better when weather cooperates.
We knew it was busy so we went for an early lunch on Saturday (11:10). By the time we left, it was packed.
Two floors with dining and a long bar on each.
The good news for non-Moerlein drinkers like me is the great (not-world class) guest taps...
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale - 13 oz $6
Chimay Tripel 13 oz $10
Duchesse de BOurgogne 13 oz $12
Founders Breakfast Stout 13 oz $8
The following were all 16 oz $6 22 oz $7.50...
Dogfish My Antonia
Left Hand Milk Stout
Rogue Dead Guy
Smuttynose Big A IPA
Bell's Pale Ale
Rivertown Hop Bomber Pale Ale
Paulaner Salvatore BOck
Youngs Double chocolate
Fullers London Pride
Duchesse for $12 is a bit steep but as we were drinking it, we realized it was the price for such an awesome venue and view.
The server sputtered a bit on beer-related stuff. Would be nice if they were better educated on beer for such a beer centric place.
Also had Moerlein drafts and Cincinnati "heritage brews" on draft. You could do flights of these but not the guest taps.
Roughly 70 high quality bottled beers presented by category.
Food was excellent. I went with fish tacos. The group split the home made sausages as an appetizer and we splurged on dessert. My wife didn't think too highly of her burger though. Four people split the bill in half and is was $80 per couple (for lunch with booze).
Highly recommend and will return. Maybe someday I'll sample the house beers to see if they're getting any better.

Very reasonable prices for food and beer. Bar area is nice and separated from the regular seating. Great view out over the Ohio River and just across the street from Great American Ballpark. Good selection of food, but food is not amazing (jazzed up pub food essentially with a few more higher quality offerings).

Beautiful, enormous place with 2 bars in a great location next to the ball park. The river bank has developed into a very nice area of bars and restaraunts where it is located too. Everything I have had to eat is very good. Moerlein makes some pretty good beers, but they also have a solid selection of other breweries. If you are downtown, give it a try.
