Glass: Westvleteren 12 trappist glass
Price: $20.00 for a 4-pack
From: Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, Calif.
Purchased: March 19, 2021
Consumed: April 7, 2021
Misc.: Canned on March 18, 2021 at 2:09 p.m. PT
Grabbed a 4-pack of this, and two others on a recent trip to Monkish. It called for a “Tripel with hibiscus.” Had it once before picking up a 4-pack, giving a taster a 3.75 on July 31, 2016 in my first visit to Monkish. Second time I had it after buying a 4-pack on March 19 I gave it a 4.00 and wrote “Might be better. Coming back to this.” I gave my other two cans to my father-in-law.
Poured a deep amber-to-reddish copper clear color with two fingers of fizzy off-white head. Could see a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Outstanding watery lacing. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.50)
Smelled clove, Belgian candied sugar, hibiscus, pear, apple, cherry, herbal and citrus. About the same out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted at least as good as the nose. Got hibiscus, clove, Belgian candied sugar, cranberry, cherry, pear, apple, grape, herbal and citrus zest. That 9.4 pct. ABV was well-hidden. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Really like this overall. Just an outstanding Tripel. (Overall - 4.00)

This was a very nicely done Belgian beer - great flavors and balance. 3/24/20 date printed on can. Pours a clear medium dark pink-rose color with just a little white head and very scant lingering lacing. Smells of nice Belgian yeast and wheat, banana and clove, some bubble gum, bready malt, light floral hops. Taste follows the nose, quite flavorful and balanced but not too heavy. The floral hibiscus must have been very subtle because I couldn’t quite detect it. Much easier to drink than some other Belgian higher ABV beers I’ve tried. Smooth mild mouthfeel with good carbonation, no real aftertaste. Good stuff!

Loved how well balanced this beer was, rich from the yeasty belgian style but nice sourness from Hibiscus.... Bravo!
