Very interesting beer. Delicious, as most all Monkish brews are.

On tap at Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, CA.

Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, spice, pepper, and herb aromas. Taste is much the same with herb and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a much better set of aromas over the taste.

Brewed with Sichuan peppercorns according to brewer's description. Pours a handsome ruby red-brown in the tall tulip. Winey nose with some yeasty fruit. On tap at Local Habit in San Diego.

Starts out with a fine-grained white foam, not especially long lasting. Moderate carbonation. The classic Dubbel flavor, with the darkly fruity tang, and that bitterish dry yeast fighting with the malty sweetness. I don't taste the pepper.

Dark fruit with some cherry, cedar cigar box notes, and a whiff of sweet vermouth. Drinkable bitterish-sweetish but uninspired beer, not helped by the flattening mouthfeel. There are so many other interesting variations on the theme that are more enjoyable. Still it's a competent brew.
