I visited Monkish on Sunday 1/20/13. Going back to my birth town of Torrance. Monkish is located in a little strip mall off Western Avenue a couple miles south of the 405. Walking in I was suprised how small it was, about 7-8 four person tables with the brewing tanks clearly visible. They had 8 of their beers on-tap, I opted for a flight of 4 (Crux, Red Table, Lumen, Magnificat) for $7. I've always enjoyed Monkish's beers when I've seen them on-tap so I wanted to visit the source. Crux and Red Table were good Belgian-style beers, but Lumen and Magnificat were fantastic and great examples of why these guys are one of my new favourite breweries. Talked to the brewer Henry as well; he was friendly, gracious and willing to talk about the beer in hand. Monkish is a little out of the way, but fans of experimental Belgian-style beers should check them out, especially as a little side trip on the way to the Redondo Beach pier.

Small brewery, set a bit back from the street in an industrial area of Torrance. Monkish specializes in Belgians and makes an array of farm house saisons. Recently, the brewery acquired a foeder and is beginning to experiment more with wild offerings. There's a tasting area, as well as a small area aside of brewing operations. The vibe and service are pretty chill.

Don't be scared if Belgians aren't your thing. They typically have at least one hoppy pale ale on draft. Every time I visit this place, I leave liking it a bit more. Their beers are artfully made with an emphasis on quality.

The brewery itself is pretty cool as well. Finding a seat can be hard, but not impossible.

It's such a treat to have two really good breweries within a short walk of each other. After a short stay at Smog City, it was off to Monkish, where a large Friday night crowd greeted us. Most of the parking spots were occupied, and we were lucky to grab a spot. A pizza truck outside the brewery, the main door wide open that lead to the brewhouse and a healthy crowd that lead me think that I was packed in like sardines. The taproom has a separate feeling to the brewhouse, being more enclosed and easier to move around (but with no surfaces to lay your glass of beer).

Monkish goes the Belgian route with its beers, and sometimes will put an American twist to it. More than ten beers on-tap, including a really tasty Belgian Strong Dark Ale which I had. Bottles are available for take away. Along with Smog City, Monkish is well worth the visit during your beer tour of Torrance.

Awesome taste room. Good music, great beer. Free pretzels. Chairs are weird and not comfortable though.

I love this brewery. There's something about it, the vibe, the people that work here, the small things that all come together. Their beer selection on tap is incredible, double what any of the other local breweries offer, with a great limited release selection, and the staff are incredibly friendly - they always offer up new suggestions and recognize local faces. I hadn't been here but twice and a cute beertender knew who I was almost immediately. Once you get your beer, you pass a large vat of free pretzels as you make your way past their wonderful metalworks, and enter into a decent-sized room for libations. There's tall bar tables in the center of the room, and tables with bags of beans or grain or...whatever...to sit on, along the sides. It's one of the few breweries that offers a TV and has often sent out invitations to come down and partake in some sports enjoyments for big games. However, if you're not into sports, no worries, because it doesn't dominate the social area. Finally, there is often a pitfire pizza company out back and I will tell you first had, your stomach will thank you for the partake. Their only downfall is parking, and can be quite a bitch, but that's par for the course with most of these breweries in the business districts. There are several breweries in Torrance, all within a three mile radius, but this, by far, is my favorite.

The service needs to improve. Some of the employees need to work on their PR skills and know how to pour a beer correctly. The beer is cosmic!

Found in the area yesterday and check out the local beer breweries. As another brewery in the area, I found a long line to be served. Had the Sem-I Delli Vita. a great Belgian type beer. Probably shorter line during the week to get a beer but, If it wasn't any good, there will be no line. I was not disappointed. Glad I stopped in.
