12 oz. bottle picked up at a Meijer store; packaged on May 30 2014. Served well-chilled.

Pours a muddy pale yellow colour, topped with one finger's worth of bubbly, soapy white head that soon fades into a loose collar and filmy cap. Modest amount of lace. The aroma is zesty and fresh, with notes of lemony citrus, sweet wheat malts, mango and apricot. A little subdued, but I definitely like what I am sensing.

A delicious pale wheat ale. Lots of wheat malt sweetness, although the banana-and-bubblegum notes common in German-style offerings are kept to a minimum in this one. Instead, their bready goodness is complemented with hints of orange, lime, apricot, and wet grass. Mildly spicy finish, with a slightly earthy bitterness that doesn't linger on the palate all that long. On the heftier side of light-bodied, with zippy carbonation that gives this brew a crisp, satisfying feel on the palate. Very drinkable; tastes considerably lighter than it actually weighs in at.

Final Grade: 4.18, an A-. Bell's Oberon Ale is one of the finest American-style wheat beers I've ever had, combining the hearty wheat malt backbone of a quality German hefe, the citrusy hop notes of an American IPA, and the light, crisp, refreshing nature one should expect from this (frequently mundane) style. A great beer that comes highly recommended - I'd be buying this regularly if it were available on this side of the border.

6/19 canned date
The beer pours a hazy golden orange with a foamy off white head that provides good coverage throughout drinking and gives a decent lace. The nose is wheat/malt sweetness upfront (no bubblegum) followed by a subtle citrus character from the hops and has an almost negligible yeast presence. The taste is off-putting when fridge-cold, but has cracked wheat sweetness and balanced hops as it enters that 40-50 degree sweet spot. It's a relatively light-bodied ale with foamy (almost chewy) protein/carbonation, modest and balanced hop/wheat/yeast presence, minimal lingering bitterness, and undetectable alcohol. Though I still prefer the two hearted cans, this beer is affordable/available and perfect for that outdoorsey can crushing itch.

This brew pours an opaque straw color with a lot of unfiltered wheat haze in the glass. Heavy lacing for a wheat beer and a very fluffy white head; it took me three pours to get it all in the glass.

The smell is a little bit bubble gum, wet straw, cloves and coriander. Unfortunately, none of the smells come through well; the scents are all muted.

The taste mostly follows the nose with a hint of orange, banana and spices but nothing comes through strongly. I believe this would be a better beer if at least one of the tastes or smells were to stand out.

The mouthfeel is surprisingly thick for a wheat beer. Thick and chewy as well as a little oily.

Overall this beer appears to have potential but no taste or smell really stands out. It is smooth and drinkable but I have the feeling this could be so much better.
