Fresh bottle from the brewery. Pours opaque black with rust highlights topped by a mocha coloured head. Great lacing.
Aroma is roasty and metallic, like wet coffee grinds and a tinge of wet cardboard.
Taste is similar. Roasty with dark fruits and coffee grinds. Finishes dry. Hints of baker's chocolate. The label says it's brewed with brewer's licorice. First I have heard of such a thing. I can only guess it's a very mild form of licorice as I only get a hint of black licorice here.
Mouthfeel is a little on the light side, unfortunately.
Overall a pretty straightforward but decent stout.
