This is my go to beer when there are limited options.

A dark beer with the aroma of chocolate and a hint of coffee.

Easy drinking, smooth taste. I remember my first time drinking it after a night out, that it tasted like pure chocolate. Of course, in more of a sober state it doesn't taste exactly like chocolate, but it is pretty close.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Beer pours a nice dark brown color, with very little head. Just a touch of ligher brown.

Beer smells slightly roasty of dark chocolate. Also present is the slight hint of licorice.

Beer taste does not overpower at all. Very light roasty taste slightly of coffee and a bit of the licorice on the backend.

Fairly light in body and easy drinking.

Pretty good non-Imperial stout.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled 9/14/2011. Pours pitch black color, with a nice 2 finger fairly dense tan head with great retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent lacing clinging to the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, caramel, coffee, roasted malt, light herbal hops, and a hint of licorice. Nice well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, coffee, caramel, roasted malt, pine, herbal hops, and a bit of spiciness. Good amount of bitterness on the finish with lingering notes of milk chocolate, caramel, pine, and herbal spiciness for a bit. Very robust flavors for 6%, with great balance. Medium carbonation and body; with a nice creamy mouthfeel. Hardly any alcohol presence except for a slight warming after the finish. Overall this is an excellent and highly robust stout. Very drinkable with great flavor balance.

12oz bottle (bottled 6/6/2011) into a snifter. Pours a dark brown/black w/ a thick tan head that comes right back up with a quick swirl.

Aroma is black licorice, roasted malt, dark fruit (prunes maybe), some notes of caramel and a faint nuttiness. Interesting complexity on the nose.

Taste is mostly roasted bitter malt blended w/ a hint of malty sweetness. Not picking up nearly as many flavor components as the aroma suggests.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, nice.

Overall this is a really tasty, well put together stout.

My first Bells brew ever.
Poured from bottle into tulip. Pours a deep brown black with tan head. Smell is of roasted malts and bitter malts.
Taste is creamy roasted malts. A bit bitter but kind of sweet.
Its a good stout, no questioning that, but that's all it is. Its good, not great.

Review from notes while on vacation in Arizona. Beer reviewed 4/15/2011.

A - The beer was poured from brown 12oz bottle to pint glass. The beer pours a very deep brown with medium brown edges in the light. A small 1/2 finger tan head with some retention and lacing.

S - A pleasant mix of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, molasses, and even a hint of butter.

T/M - Similar to the nose the beer starts out with a large roast flavor though a bit of charred oak as well. The middle of the beer brings the molasses, chocolate, and coffee tones from the nose, though rather subdued. The beer finishes a bit creamy with a lingering roast flavor. Full bodied and mildly carbonated. Hides the alcohol well.

O - A better than average stout but not mind-blowing. I found it to be a bit overbearing with smokey char and roast and didn't seem to blend well together. Glad to have tried it but likely won't be back.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.
