On cask at Fiddler's Hearth in South Bend, served in a nonic pint.

Pour: Deep brown/nearly black with three fingers of thick, creamy, dark khaki head. Some nice lacing gets left through the entire glass.

Smell: Big roasted profile upfront, with some light roasted coffee, and just a touch of licorice. Maybe some raisins creep in. Most just a nice, light roastiness.

Taste: Heavy, light roasted malt profile (I hope that makes sense), and a touch of light coffee. Some sweet milk chocolate creeps in, and a little bit of dark fruits. Finishes with the same roastiness that opened.

Mouthfeel: Fantastic. So creamy and smooth. I could definitely have two or three of these and not have too much palate fatigue.

Overall: A good beer made even better on cask. Highly recommended if you can have it served this way.

Bell's beers are always a sound purchase; like Founder's, they rarely disappoint. Bell's offering of Kalamazoo Stout is a little light in body (mouthfeel) for me BUT I do really like the introduction of licorice accent and aftertaste.

POURS/HEAD: Opaque black with a dense tan head.

AROMA: Didn't notice a licorice scent in the aroma; smell was sweet malt and burnt caramel.

TASTE: Sweet edge with a high-hat cymbal and reverb.

I'll have this again for further thoughts.

Pours about a finger width of head, mocha to tan in color. Smells of coffee, chocolate and licorice. Tastes of espresso, chicory, and licorice with just a bit of smoky peat. Mouthfeel is not very fizzy due to low carbonation, but rather thick and rich. Overall, a nice smoky stout. Can't go wrong with Bell's and this beer is no exception.
