Our award winning Porter bridges the gap between malty brown ales and heavily roasted stouts. Notes of chocolate, coffee and roasted barley are offset with just a slight hop bitterness. Enjoy any time of the year.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: Bine & Vine Bottleshop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $2.19
Purchased: June 6, 2014
Consumed: June 6, 2014
Misc.: Packaged on April 3, 2014
Poured an almost pitch black color with two fingers of khaki-tan head, which settled along nicely on the top. Very good amount of spiderweb, layered lacing along the sides of the glass. Fantastic retention on the top of the glass all the way down.
Smelled caramel espresso malts. Also toffee, roasty nuts, buttery malts, dark chocolate, caramel fudge and faint coffee beans.
Tasted dark chocolate, crayon, smoky fire, almost ashtray, bitter coffee notes, roasty nutty malts, slight butter malts and a bit of burnt toast.
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish.
A pretty good porter overall. Not my favorite, but probably better than most. I’d have it again.

A 6pk of 12oz bottles (Best by 14 APR 24) from , possibly, the Bolton Hill market: Dark-brown body with a frothy tan head; maybe a whiff of chocolate; chocolate & coffee malts with a bit of hops; medium bodied with pleasant carbonation; a robust porter

12 oz. bottle. Sable body with beige head. Wonderful roasted malt flavor with hints of cocoa and coffee. Just enough hop presence. A classic porter that I finally got to try.

Not even remotely like a porter. IBUs are off the charts. Porter should have about 20 IBUs, maybe 25. Bitterness comes from the black and roasted malts. The nose even had a hop aroma. Should be called a dark IPA. Labeled incorrectly. Won’t buy this again.

Smells of maltiness. It pours very dark with a good sized head that clears off quickly. Chocolate and coffee flavors are easily distinguishable. It has a dark taste but feels lighter than it looks.

About as good as a straight ahead American porter is going to get. It’s toasty and malty, there’s good coffee flavor, and a surprising punch of bitter and spicy hops for the style. Good lacing and pillowy mouth feel.

If you like the style you should be happy with this selection. Checks all the right boxes, from the attractive appearance, the roasty malt aroma, the complexity of the flavor and the full-to-medium bodied mouthfeel. One or two will definitely help you escape the chill of a frosty evening.

Appearance: This one pours a very dark black with about two fingers worth of dark beige head.
Aroma: Dark chocolate, vanilla, dark roasted malts and wonderfully roasted hops. Hints of bourbon in the tail end.
Taste: The mouth feel is smoother than silk. Bourbon, vanilla, dark roasted malts and roasted hops.
Overall: This is an amazing beer. Such a incredible example of what a porter should be. Very well done Bells brewery. Prost.
