Poured an attractive inky darkness with tinges of ruby at the edges. Initial thick brown sugar-colored head fades quickly to a very minimal ring. Attempts are made at lacing, but don't quite measure up. Aromas are toasty malt, cocoa powder, freshly-brewed coffee. Flavor is tasty, with a nicely-balanced mixture of chocolate, coffee, and sweet malt. Finishes with a good dose of bitter chocolate with a hint of smoke flavor lingering in the background. Medium-high body and quite smooth on the palate. Very easy to drink and one hell of a session beer that got immensely better as it warmed.
Another winner from Bell's.
