Batch 8295, Packaged January 25, 2008.
A - Pours black into a big ol' snifter. Completely and utterly black. A half-finger brown head sits atop the blackness that embodies this brew.
S - Roast. Roasty malts, roasty coffee, roasty roast. Bittersweet chocolate, coffee... maybe slight vanilla on the back end, but that's my imagination.
T - Pretty damn hoppy for a RIS. Lots of roasty, chocolate malts, plus a nice hop bite at the end. A well-balanced, and well made RIS. Not the most complex compared to the giants of the style, but definitely nothing to scoff at.
M - Fucking awesome. I can't describe it better. It reminds me of DL, and that says alot. Viscous, coating, syrupy, thick... with the nicest amount of carbonation to offset this huge-bodied beast.
D - Great drinkability for the strength and flavors involved. A sipper, but an easy sipper.
Notes: I always steered clear of this Bell's offering due to reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a more-than-enjoyable brew. It's a well-crafted brew, and not just because I'm a homeboy. I don't care what state this was made, it's a tasty, fantastic brew.
