Pours out black with a nice dark tan head that sticks around for quite a while and has nice lacing.
Smell. I'm getting a bit of a mocha like coffee bean aroma with a touch of vanilla bean. Heavy burnt malt aroma that gives it a smooth licorice bit to it.
Taste. Has a bold and potent flavor, but is still on the smoother side. A bit of an espresso flavor comes out nicely as does the bitterness. There is an alcoholic bite to it that is a little spicy to my tongue and warming, but is not all that out of hand. Has just a small fruity bit to it too; cherries is what i get. Aftertaste has a little smoky flavor to it that i did not get in the aroma or initial taste, with a little cocoa.
Mouthfeel. Body is full, but as it warms it seems to get a little bit of a slickness to it. Has a nice balance as I can certainly taste the malts and hops and the flavors go together nicely. Carbonation is at a proper level.
Overall, a real nice RIS that i am glad to try. I like the the potent flavors on both sides and how its balanced so well. It's not one i would say i must have again, but would be happy if that happens.
