Pours black but smoothly (not syrupy). Thin tan (almost brown) head. Given the minimal head, it laces pretty well.
Aroma is big malt sweetness with roast notes. Molasses, oats, chocolate, and the alcohol. Sweet and rich scents.
Taste is a balance of big roast and big sweet flavors. Carbonation rests well on the rich body of the beer. Dry flavor, oaty and a dry, coffee and licorice finish. Roast enhances as it warms. Rich and complex sweetness to offset it, though.
Easy to drink and so rich that it completely hides its high abv. Drinks slowly from the richness, not from heaviness or alcohol.
