I picked up two bottles of this excellent Old Ale from a Holiday Beer Swap with some friends at work.
12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.
Appearance: Deep, murky brown like old, well-worn leather. Thick, creamy 4 cm head settles to a 1 cm ring with a creamy skim coat on top of the beer. Nice lacing throughout.
Smell: Caramel malts, pine and citrus hops, and a whiff of alcohol all swirl around to form a nice hint of whats to come.
Taste: Sweet, toasty caramel maltiness up front that melds into a long, spicy hop finish. Warming alcohol bites in the middle, then fades into the background through the finish. Brash at first, the beer mellowed slightly as it warmed.
Mouthfeel: Full and creamy, but not too thick. Just right!
Drinkability: The higher alcohol content detracts from the drinkability a little, but it is still a good sipper.
Overall, this is a very tasty sipping beer that will definitely warm a cold winter night. I will cellar the remaining bottle, and see what a little time does to the character of this beer. A solid Old Ale.

Bottled on 9/11/13; poured into a snifter 7/25/14
A: Cola brown. A tan half finger head that dissipates to foam. Light lacing.
S: Dark fruits (plums, dates, raisins, figs), molasses, brown sugar.
T: Follows nose. Chewy, thick, robust, hearty. Syrupy. Almost bourbon-y. This one means business. The aging really improved on the smoothness.
M: Medium to heavy with light carbonation.
O: A stellar sipper. Really mellows as it warms. Recommended.
