Poured from a bottle into a nonic pint glass.
Appearance: A hazy mahogany body sits under a very pale brown foam head. A very thin layer of lacing on this pour.
Smell: The malts really stand out. Notes of burn caramel and toasted grains dominate the nose... almost smells as rich as a stout.
Taste: Very bready and grainy. A very mild nut taste seems to serve as the base for the flavors in this brew. Very minor notes of apple come through. The hops kick in and create a great mild finish.
Mouthfeel: Slightly less carbonation than I have experienced with brown ales. It does not hurt the beer but it is definitely something you will notice.
Overall: Not a bad brown ale. Certainly competes with many of the other popular brown ales. I was not overwhelmed but I was not disappointed. Good example of the style, will buy again.
