Java Stout uses a custom blend of coffee beans, roasted locally for us by Water Street Coffee Joint, to generate its intense flavor. Possessing an unmistakable aromatic punch, Java Stout has long been one of our most popular stouts.

This was had at the Sanctuary, served in a pint glass.

Appearance- The beer reached the table sporting a half-finger of mocha head. It degraded to a slight ring around the glass, but left some sheet lace there. The body is, well, coffee black.

Smell- The nose is loaded with coffee and char. Period. It has a big nose, and smells nice. If coffee and char is your type of nose.

Taste- Right off the bat some sweet mocha hits the palate, but then the roasted coffee starts to roll over the tongue in waves. The finish is full on roast, char, and some brown sugar. It would be nicer if that creamer quality was not bowled over so fast.

Mouth feel- The feel is medium to full with nice coating in the mouth. Only a little dry and the creaminess of the beer could be done a little better. Still good for a Bell's beer.

Overall- This stout certainly delivers with what is promised. It may even be a little too one-dimensional for me. Some of the better coffee stouts I have had included a little more coffee creamer and mocha.

Bell's says damn it all and just loads you up on coffee. It is worth a try if you enjoy some stout with your coffee.

Nice dark brown pour with a 1 finger chocolate milk head.
This goes dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee for broke! Not particularly complex but really nails the coffee flavors, and the chocolate flavors are a nice backing. If you're a coffee stout fiend, this is something to seek out. If not, grab a bottle anyways, just know what to expect. Very delicious!

A - Almost black, medium tan head. Slow to leave. Lots of viscous cling lace and cascading bubbles.

S - Burnt coffee, milk chocolate, chocolate chip cookies.

T - Taste follows smell, but heavier on the burnt coffee. Maybe too heavy for me. Nice 90% Cocoa flavor too.

M - Medium body, balance too much to bitter coffee. Texture a little phlemy in the center.

D - Not a session for sure.

Poured into a snifter.

A- Dark, dark brown, not quite black, but it's almost there. A 1/2'' tan head that quickly fades. Some moderate lacing left.

S- Big coffee, roasted malts, more coffee, and some milk chocolate.

T- The nose is right on here. Maybe a little more on the espresso side of coffee though. The roasted malts shine through and are not overshadowed by the coffee. Hints of milk chocolate are noticeable, however, they are in the backseat.

M- Pretty smooth and creamy.

D- I could def drink a few. Will I drink it all night...no.
