This beer pours black with a off white head

The smell is of coffee grounds, and a lot of them you also might get hints of nutmeg

The taste follows suit very well more coffee grounds, surprising never had a stout this coffee forward the spice in the nose does not come through in the flavor

mouthfeel is smooth and creamy

good beer

A: Pours very dark brown with a finger of dense light brown head. The head seems to stay around forever.

S: Interesting - a mix of coffee with some spicy, roasty, possibly smoky aroma. The coffee aroma is a bit stale, though. Having had this aged before, I was hoping it smelled better fresh.

T: Burnt coffee taste with some bitter chocolate. Not great.

M: a bit thin and prickly.

O: I was hoping this beer would taste better fresh, but I was wrong. It tastes like burnt coffee with some faint dark chocolate flavor. I'm not sure what Bell's was trying to do here.

appearance: Dark brown. Fairly thick mocha head. It looks a tad thin for an Imp stout.
smell: I do like a strong coffee and a strong stout. The nose is a little harsh. Can't quite identify it but it doesn't have the rich balanced nose of a Southern Tier Jahva or an FBS.
taste: Like the nose, it's not quite dialed in for my taste.
overall: Not my cup of coffee i guess. Not a bad brew by any means but not up to the aforementioned coffee stouts imo.

What a nice stout!! Pours black with a nice thickness, creamy espresso-colored head. Smells like roasted malts and spent coffee grinds, in a good way. Taste is smooth and surprisingly not bitter. Earthy hops present. Nice and full, coating and oily. This is good stuff.

A- pours pitch black with a finger and a half of brown tan head decent head retention. Not much lacing.

S- aromas of French pressed coffee, oily coffee bean and roasty malt. Smells like a cup of black coffee.

T- Iced coffee flavors abound here. Oily coffee bean with a touch of a roasty malt in the middle. Weak finish with a touch of char. Again tastes like a cup o' Joe.

MF- oily slick mouthfeel with a light body. Average carbonation.

D- decent drinkability

Overall a solid coffee lovers stout. Me thinks they should have put, "Coffee brewed with beer" on the lable.

12oz bottle pours a pitch black heavy looking liquid with coarse finger of mocha head clinging to the snifter. the aroma is a coffee explosion, burnt chocolate, roasted coffee beans, tobacco leaves and a hint of sweetness. the taste is of bold guatemalan coffee bean, a light hop presence, a very bitter, dark, charred chocolate taste finishes up. not a lot of alcohol presence and the body is less filling than what meets the eye but medium to full, overly carbonated which creates a smoothness equivalent to the back of a fat chicks legs, rocky.... like.... mogul. just not very smooth perhaps age could round some things out and calm the coffee down. this beer is not very good and bells continues to disappoint :( thanks for nothin D! ill crush FBS

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass. Packaged Sept 22nd 2011.

Out of the bottle not even a hint of carbonation. No head forms, next to nothing and there is barely a collar on this at all. In fact not a sound was even made while pouring into the glass. Body color is a dark brown walnut, almost red hued garnet on the edges. THere is some leg like lacing. A VERY aggressive pour makes a thick dark brown coffee like head, but it was ridiculous how high I had to have the bottle over the glass.

Nose is a nice roast coffee, a nice sweetness also of turbanado raw like sugar. Creamy smelling and a mix of malt, and powdered dark bitter cacao. This smells real nice.

Taste is bitter coffee, and a bitterness that follows on the palate into a hop bent angle. Extremely front palate dry and numbing, with a little bit of wet feeling. Creamy sensation from the nose doesn't come through on the feel and on the palate. Slight flat and prickly, small chocolate malt sensation.

Overall this isn't too bad, but it's surprisingly a little underwhelming and if I could describe the beer with one word it would be "flat". Out of the bottle this really didn't deliver, but I could certainly drink this again, but probably not at the price they charge for it.
