Java Stout uses a custom blend of coffee beans, roasted locally for us by Water Street Coffee Joint, to generate its intense flavor. Possessing an unmistakable aromatic punch, Java Stout has long been one of our most popular stouts.

12oz bottled on Sept. 22, reviewed Jan. 20. Poured into a Bell's tulip.

Blackish, with red hues in the light. Creamy, brown head is small but leaves some lacing.

Smells like straight-up coffee beans, mostly. Chocolate also.

Flavor is much of the same. Slightly bitter, medium-roast coffee--more like regular coffee than espresso, to me--and sweet chocolate notes that remind me of chocolate chips. Overall, though, this isn't a sweet beer. Some earthy notes in the finish.

This one is smooth and less creamy than might be expected. Low carbonation fits for the this beer.

Overall, this is a good coffee-forward stout, if that's the kind of thing you're looking for. Legit coffee flavors and just the right amount of bitter and roastiness to keep it an easy drinker.

Bells Java Stout, reviewed from notes 1/14/12. Thanks to a great trader for this one.

12oz bottle packaged Nov 16th, Batch No, 17096. Poured into a New Belgium globe.

A: Pours a dark black with a distinguishable red hue but is remarkably opaque in the glass. Good looking creamy mocha-colored head dissipates pretty rapidly; lacing ok.

S: Earthy astringent cold coffee with a definite spicy kick.

T: More of the same. though with a noticeable chocolate malt presence as well. Noticeable spicy earthy lightly piney hops.

Drying and astringent and bitter like a good French Roast.

MF: Medium, wet, and then dry on the finish.

O: A good coffee beer and one I would love to have again.

A - Poured into a pint glass a black, thick liquid with a small 1/4" off white head with a splash of tan on it. Very little lacing occurs and sits around 3/4 of the glass after some time.

S - Just a booming aroma of java & dark chocolate chip. Some coffee and earth tones in there as well. A really pleasing java chip scent.

T - More java chips with some coffee and earth tones in the finish.

M - Medium carbonation with a slightly dry finish.

O - A very good stout with no booze scents. Very pleasing aroma and taste.

Reviewed from notes.

A- Pours almost black with a 1/2 finger head with minimal lacing.

S- Smells of deep dark roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate, small amounts of alcohol, and a nice roasted malt character.

T- Roasted coffee/espresso notes, bittersweet chocolate, a bit of an earthy hop character, some sweet vanilla as well.

M- Thin and overly carbonated.

O- Pretty decent coffee stout. One of the better ones I've had.

Java pours deep and dark, 2 finger light tan head, nice to look at. Head was gone quick along with light lacing. Smell is sweet, but all coffee. Taste is all roasted coffee beans, black, earthy. A *touch of maltiness peaking in the back, dry java finish. It's definitely all java here, in and out. No sign of alcohol or hops. Drier, thinner stout body. Overall it's not a bad beer, not my style, though.
