Dark brown, opaque beer. Leaves little to no head after a minute or two.
Aroma of charred wood, darkly roasted barley, sour fruits.
Flavor begins similar to a Bell's stout. Very similar roasted barley flavors with a hint of licorice and a dark, vaguely spicy fruitiness. Some creaminess follows, with a touch of alcohol to finish things off.
Mouthfeel is mostly dry, a bit astringent from the roasted grains. Body is thick and slightly oily; carbonation is medium-low. Finishes sweet, a bit like a lacto stout.
Overall, this is certainly not my favorite Bell's beer. The whole thing comes off as an attempt to over-Americanize a dark Belgian style. It's not bad, but I don't see myself seeking it out over their other offerings, especially considering the price.
