Bottles from batch 10.17.06 courtesy of BeerBeing (Birthday BIF) and nflmvp (Simply Beer BIF). One bottle was used in the creation of a loaf of bread which wonderfully complemented the other bottle. This one was shared with BA Danfield.
This one pours a deep brown with barely a hint of red shining through the very edge when held up to the light. There's a medium sized light tan head which holds for a minute or two before settling down to a thin halo atop the beer.
The nose is mostly dark fruits (plums, raisins, a little bit of dates) but also a slightly sweet overly ripe cherry smell. There's also a slight alcohol spicy character which adds complexity but doesn't drag down the overall enjoyability.
The taste is a well rounded but not overly dominant chocolate cocoa flavor along with plenty of the expected and very smooth dark fruits. Much less booze in the taste than in the nose.
This is a great, smooth, well rounded beer that I'd love to have again. This is a great example of the style.
