Bottle into a snifter, dated 9/6/11.
A - Inviting. Opaque but not oily black. Thin head of mocha bubbles which ends up rimming it. No noticeable residue on the glass.
S - Very good. Light roasted coffee. Fair amount of bitter to bittersweet chocolate. A bit of dark cherries? No booze to speak of. It's fairly understated, though - doesn't leap out and punch you in the nose.
T - Tastiness. Very smooth - smooth as cream but without any lactose. Leads with a light chocolate and hint of coffee, primarily roasty toasty malts. Not getting the fruit/cherry as much as in the smell. Starts fairly sweet and evolves into a lingering roasted coffee that lasts for a while. Blurs the line between a sipper and a quaffer.
M - Quality. Appropriate carb level - in the background. Don't notice the carb unless trying to. A bit on the thicker side but nothing like a Ten Fidy etc. Good for this beer.
Overall, a very good beer. One of my favorites in the fall/winter. Low enough in abv to drink several, but tasty. This isn't a study in subtle layers of flavor, but a study of how to make a very tasty non-imperial stout. Another great Bells fall/winter offering...like all of them.

A - Pours pitch black with a two-finger tan foamy head. Heavy lacing.
S - Roasted malts, sweet milk chocolate, and dark coffee.
T - Follows the smell. Roasted malts with sweet milk chocolate. Bitter coffee in the middle. Finish is smokey.
M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Smooth drinking with a watery mouthfeel.
O - Very easy drinking roasted stout. A little more body would help out. Still very good.

Had this last night at the bar, I have not had anything from Bell's that I have disliked so far. This one I truly appreciated, since it is a cream stout that does not contain dairy. Nice smooth mouth feel, delicious chocolate flavor. This stout is pleasing, without being thick and is very easy to drink. I recommend it highly.
