Pours very deep reddish brown with a creamy thick splotchy tan head that fades surprisingly fast.
Very fragant beer. Has a sweet doughy, chocolate smell with hints of hops and alcohol.
A competition between very sweet and full-on roasted bitterness. Sweet wins by a nose, but in the fight I get hints of fruit, black coffee, vanilla, roasted grains, juicy berries and a lingering dry sweet roastiness. Very nice.
Medium to full bodied, smooth going down but a bit gritty on the finish.
Easy to drink with a lot to offer in the way of aroma and flavor. This may be one of those like-it-or-hate-it beers, and I like it. But then, I like all of Bell's stouts.
