Appearance: Black with lots of yeasty chunks. Gotta give these Bells beers a careful pour if you want them clean. Good thing I dont mind the yeasties. Aggressive pour yielded a fairly small, white head that skimmed to nothing. Clinging lace.
Smell: Roasty and astringent, with the dark malts in the forefront. Very rich and luxurious, like a warm piece of chocolate cake, with definite java influence.
Taste: Very, very nice. Initially slightly sweet, with a soft, mouth-filling body. Glides down the throat with no hint of off flavor. Prickly carbonation hits the tongue, then the creaminess washes away any harshness that may have been present. Finishes only moderately dry, with a slight leafy hop afterthought. Only a slight chalkiness as it warms.
Probably my favorite Bells thus far. Thanks feloniousmonk!
