Notes/Commercial Description:
Double Cream Stout derives its name from its smooth, creamy texture, not the ingredients. Completely dairy-free, this stout blends ten different specialty malts to yield a remarkable depth of flavor. With only a touch of burnt notes, Double Cream Stout focuses on the softer, cocoa & espresso-like aspects of roasted malt.

I don't know how I have missed this one by Bell's over the years but, alas I have. But I have now resolved that problem! I enjoy cream stouts, this one is a bit of a hybrid.

Color: Black, but there is some light that escapes from this one. It isn't Ten Fidy or Stone IRS. But then again those beers are not in the same category really.

Aroma: Sweet, roasted dark malts, chocolate, not a huge amount going on, but part of the attraction.

Taste: Grainy, but a pleasant way. Its sweet, dark chocolate, smooth malts and some sweetness, very pleasant and drinkable.

Overall: Not the best stout in the world, but very well made and enjoyable. For something comparable, I would still choose Left Hand Nitro Milk stout over this, but then this isn't really a milk stout, its a cream stout. I don't believe they use the lactose, which is probably a good thing. Its good, worth seeking out and the price is about where it should be.

This poured a deep, murky black with a minimal head, and small bubbles throughout. Nice lookin'. Aromas of roasty malt, burnt popcorn (in a good way), and coffee hints. Tasted malty, a bit sweet (do I detect lactose sugars?), some roasty flavors, altogether rather light. Mouthfeel was a bit light and watery, clean aftertaste. Well-made, but I am a fan of bigger, badder stouts... good for the style.
