Notes/Commercial Description:
Double Cream Stout derives its name from its smooth, creamy texture, not the ingredients. Completely dairy-free, this stout blends ten different specialty malts to yield a remarkable depth of flavor. With only a touch of burnt notes, Double Cream Stout focuses on the softer, cocoa & espresso-like aspects of roasted malt.

Bottle from Maltitude. Pours dark black with almost no head. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, espresso and chocolate. Tastes very smooth, with flavors of roasted malts, roasted coffee beans, and vanilla. Light carbonation. Sweet and delicious.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter (bottled on 9/8/14 B [13474])

A: Pitch black, with the lightest tan collar. No lacing either.
S: Definitely smells like espresso with hints of cocoa. A lot of acidic black coffee and roast.
T: Lots of roast and a bit of coffee. A bit thin but I think that works here to come across as espresso. I kind of wish this had been a milk/sweet stout. The title is misleading, it needs to be creamy and a bit sweeter.
M: It's carbonation is akin to when a waves washes up on the beach and there is the leading line that rushes up with a froth of foam and then recedes.
O: Good, but got nothing on Expedition or Black Note. I don't have much hope for Java Stout, considering how all of their regular stouts have tasted.

Appearance - 3.5/5
A very dark brown-red, cannot see through. A finger or so of dark-tan colored head.

Smell - 3.8/5
Chocolate and coffee are the predominant aromas, cannot detect much else.

Taste - 3.5/5
Some sweet earthy malt taste, the chocolate and coffee is still present, but very subtle (whereas they were very pronounced in the smell). The beer is slighty smoky, slightly roasty, slighty hoppy, slightly earthy, and a tiny bit chocolate/coffee. I would have liked for this stout to be more chocolatey, and less smoky/hoppy/earthy.

Mouthfeel - 4/5
Very smooth and creamy, which is to be expected for this "double cream" stout. There is a light to moderate amount of carbonation. Medium bodied.

Overall - 3.5/5
This was an okay beer. From it's label and name, I was expecting more of a chocolately kind of taste, or something in that realm. But this stout had a surprising strong earthy taste. It wasn't bad, just wasn't quite what I was looking for in this beer. Overall, an okay choice.
