A - black with slight brown around the edge of the glass. An explosive creamy brown head that really sticks around.

S - Coffee, chocolate, toffee, slight roasted burnt smell,

T - Creamy chocolate which gives way to coffee and a bit slight herbal tones. These then bow to a strong roasted profile that is quite mellow.

M - Good carbonation, but very smooth.

O - A solid stout. Provides the profile with a "double-creaminess" that makes it go down quite easy without losing the character.

Bottle from a six-pack poured into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a pretty big, cascading head that settles after a few minutes. Utterly impenetrable brown-black with a tan head. Moderate lacing.

Smell: On the lighter side of intensity, but pretty nice. Sweet malt, mostly caramel with a little chocolate. A little bit of alcohol, which doesn't really seem necessary.

Taste: It's a stout alright, but it's got a different flavor profile than the (also wonderful) Kalamazoo Stout. The front is a little milky, while the finish is a little darker. Some roasted black malt, but in lighter quantities than the Kalamazoo. It is complemented with softer cocoa and toffee elements. Little hints of herbal hops on the back end.

Mouthfeel: Sure is creamy! Aptly named. Carbonation is appropriate for the style, a little tingly.

Overall: Bell's stouts are great choices. Different from Kalamazoo, but just as good.

A- Pours deep deep brown. Head is tan and lasts fairly well.
S- The aroma is sweet, milk chocolate, and a bit of a maple syrup type aroma.
T- Cocoa, milk chocolate, vanilla, and a caramel presence as well. The finish has kind of a funny sweet maple flavor.
M- Very smooth and creamy. Roughly medium weight to it. Lingers a long time in the mouth.
O- Worth trying just for the nice mouthfeel. The flavors are only slightly above average, but in it's totality it's a good stout.

A - Pours a dark brown/black with a cream-colored head that dissipates to a thin layer. Good lacing.

S - Notes of coffee, vanilla, and other spices. I also pick up noticeable smells of roasted malts.

T - Nice blend of coffee, malt, and toffee. I also definitely pick up the cream flavors. It is sweet, which is what I look for in anything that has "cream" in the name of it, though not overpoweringly so. Very well-balanced.

M - Creamy and smooth. Medium to thick bodied, but really smooth. Perfect finish.

O - If you want a creamy and sweet stout, look no further. I was very impressed with the Double Cream Stout - it does a marvelous job of balancing the sweet flavors with the roasted character of the stout. Fantastic beer!

Poured from the bottle into a large snifter glass. Packaged September 6th 2011.

A very small one finger head, of dark coffee and cocoa color is presented, sitting on a somewhat very dark red, almost deep red brown body color. Head seems to fall and disappear fairly quickly, collar recedes as well too. Some just barely visible tiny rising carbonation is noticeable.

Nose is a simple berry fruit, some cherry but also a nice simple roast character, browning cooked and roasted malt. Nice mix of fruit barleywine character and stout.

For the style even slightly wet, but also fairly good flavors on the palate. Taste rolls to a mild flattened coffee and even a big soft roast character on the palate. Finish is a little watery, and almost like flattened club soda.

Overall though I really like the nose on this beer and it's the most impresssive thing about it, so I don't seem to mind ramming my shnoze in the glass and having another sip.

A-Pours a very deep brown with a small amount of creamy light tan head.
S-Very complex aroma, notes of vanilla, chocolate, coffee and a slight caramel sweetness.
T-Slight sour flavor along with flavors of dark chocolate and coffee at the start. Slight caramel flavor, nice creamy flavor.
M-Very balanced, full bodied and creamy. Light carbonation.
Overall, a very nice stout. I love the creamy flavor, it offsets some of the bitter coffee flavors you get with most stouts yet you don't lose the traditional stout flavor. Not as creamy as I was expecting but a very good stout.

Appearance is deep solid black with brown head and nice lacing.

Nose is coffee with sweet malt and tree bark.

Taste is coffee and cocoa up front, and fades to a variety of sweet malts (10 in all, at least 3 or 4 are discernible). Sugary finish.

Mouthfeel is creamy, with mild carbonation; very pleasant.

Overall, a nice, smooth, flavorful stout.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. Received as an extra from rfraga77. Thanks!

A: Dark dark brown. Agressive pour leads to a two-finger fluffy tan-ish head that disappears relatively quickly. Lacing is thick and sticks to the glass like glue.

S: Wow, big time aroma here of toasted chocolate malts, bitter dark cocoa, espresso. Lots and lots going on here...it's really an assault on the nose - in a good way.

T: Way more subtle than the nose would suggest. Way smooth blend of coffee, espresso, chocolate, toasted malts, bready malt and a touch of hop bitterness at the end that for some reason I think I can differentiate from the coffee bitterness - but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

M: Nicely carbonated, probably on the lighter side of carbonation. Medium body, smooth feel.

O: A nice, easy drinking stout with a ton of complex aromas and flavor. To strike the balance of smooth and complex is seemingly not an easy task. This is a really nice brew and I commend Bell's on a job well done.

Light brown with a big ol' frothy head on 'im like steamed milk. looks like a macchiato.

aromas of a light roast with lots of cream and sugar. there's a roasted nut aroma running around in there that finishes sweetly with vanilla.

this is really sweet and nutty. it tastes remarkably like a mellow coffee blend with lots of milk and sugar. it's funny that they disclaim diary as an ingredient, because it very much seems to be in there. there's also a mellow nutty flavor present, like a walnut or pecan. finally, there's a hop presence that is really excellent, because it balances the beer so well.

i did not expect this much creaminess. this is wonderful. really, really smooth. the hop backbone though is a great component, because it cuts all these malts down a bit smoothly.

really good beer. really good. actually tastes like coffee and cream. so smooth and highly drinkable. BELLS.

I really can't add to the other A+ reviews other than to say this:

I have something of a "sweet-tooth", so this brew is right in my wheelhouse.

Don't misunderstand - The sweetness isn't cloying, or obtrusive. It's in perfect harmony with the hops and alcohol that sneak in and remind you that you are, indeed, drinking a beer.

I can see pouring this over some great vanilla ice-cream as a socko dessert to surprise your dinner guests.

Simply one of the most delicious beverages I've ever tasted.

Incredible.

An above-average stout. Great taste, a nice bit of bitterness to round out the malt. The only thing it's lacking is the mouthfeel- if it was a bit thicker, and stayed with you longer, they would have had a great one.

It's got more to it than their kalamazoo stout, but doesn't fill you up like the expedition. A somewhat special stout that won't knock you over.

Bottled 9/6/11

A - Pours very deep brown, black, though not completely opaque. Only half a finger of tan head that dissipated pretty quickly. No lacing to speak of.

S - Smells a bit like coffee with cream. While it does smell quite creamy, there is a significant roasted element as well.

T - Similar to smell, quite creamy but nice a nice roasted taste to prevent the creaminess form becoming overwhelming.

M - Medium full mouthfeel is very creamy and finishes with a lingering sweetness.

O - A good stout, but not one that I would return to too often.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle

A - Dark coffee in color, very nice tan head with slight glass lacing

S - Lots of coffee, some cocoa, a toasted malt scent

T - On the front a sweet maltiness, followed by some chocolate finishing with a coffee like aftertaste, nicely balanced brew.

M - Is very creamy, medium bodied, mild carbonation

B - This is a tasty brew, as previously stated nice balance, not too sweet or heavy, great beer to have with a nice stew on a cold winter's evening.

A - Typical stout; very dark but not completely opaque. Nice tan dense foamy head and good lacing.

S - Very rich roasted aroma with a milk sugar sweetness in the background, with maybe even a hint of chocolate in there.

T - Tends to lean towards the sweeter side of the style with hardly any dryness until the very end. Big roasted, sweet molasses, chocolate, and lactose flavors. Complex grain bill and leaves the palate semi-dry with flavors of wood and roasted grain.

M - Very smooth and velvet-like on the palate, medium-heavy body. Creamy texture make it easy to drink and light enough flavors and ABV to make it extremely pallatable.

O - Very nicely done for the nice without the huge alcohol, roasted, barrel flavors.

Pours a thick, black color with tan creamy head. Head quickly dwindles to a ring around the glass.

Aroma of dark chocolate, fruit, toasted bread and caramel cream.

Dark roasted barley flavor, with chocolate and licorice also present. A hint of creamy caramel, with very faint diacetyl. Finish is slightly bitter, with dry grain husk flavors in the breath.

Mouthfeel is slick and creamy, and moderately dextrinous, but the finish is mostly dry.

A very enjoyable stout from one of my favorite breweries.

This is one of my all-time favorites. While I was in college I'd drink this during my all nighters of studying. Great memories.

This one pours a milk chocolate brown in color, very smooth and creamy, medium in bodied, with a beige lacing around the glass. It smells of creamy chocolates, light roast, light coffee, witha slight bitterness and a slightly sweet and creamy finish. It is very smooth and finishes light. The flavors consist of smooth and creamy milk chocolate with a light and slightly bitter roast. It's excellent. The aftertaste is both light and very appealing. It is exceptionally smooth and drinks perfectly for the style. It's too drinkable and perfect for cold weather. I love this one.

appearance: pours a jet black, great looking stout with a 1" chocolate head.

aroma: light hints of vanilla and chocolate. i get a slight roasty smell too. still, a bit light for my taste, i like my stouts to have some more nose to it

palate: sits real light in the mouth. not a very strong or heavy bodied beer, but it works for its advantage.

taste: nothing overwhelming here, with nice light stouts flavors. typical chocolate and malty flavors

overall: a very good light stout. won't fill you up like expedition but has enough flavors to satisfy most stout lovers.

A: Pitch black in color with a large tan colored head made up of lots of different sized bubbles.

S: Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, grain.

T: Initial taste is of very, very sweet roasted malts. The beer then gets a tad bitter and then sweet in the finish. The finish is smoky and almost chicory-like.

M: Light in body and carbonation. Easy drinking.

O: A good stout. A bit strong in flavor and sweetness.

thankfully I have an account in the Poconos that carries bell stuff.. and I do load up, better drink this before it goes bad!

even on a soft pour the head comes running and gunning like an avalanche, or more like a volcano I suppose... anyway I got lucky and it stopped short of overflow, it did rise to a full 3 fingers before calming down, lacing is wonderful, a nice sheet of even microbubbles, this isn't exactly black but light is sure as hell not getting through, about half a head of foam decides to stick around while I write my trite little tome about this brew....

nose...
oh man... the nose is goddamn deliciousness wrapped in bacon shoved inside jessica alba (with her permission, I mean cmon...). pillowy coffee, the scent of cream as it hits said coffee, the aroma of sugar being stirred into said coffee, the kleenex I need now to clean up aisle ego... a burnty turnty roast with a waft of maple finish... ever have real vermont maple syrup in your morning coffee ? this is it... and damn this is good... as a coffee head this really reminds me of my fave cup, gorilla coffee in brooklyn with a shot of maple syrup... this is divine to me that this beer achieves such subtle but yet full aroma.

taste etc...
all the flavors suggested in the aroma are there but not as perfect. This drinks really smooth but has more of a slightly bitter dark chocolate finish than what I was expecting from the nose. The body is perfect, creamy to the bone and almost slammable. the nice burnt flavor does come through in the aftertaste as you sip downward into the spiral.

verdict?
really tasty, great beer, bell's scores again... damn I should have tried this months ago ! This should be a hit for coffee lovers.

A 12 ounce bottle from optimator13; thank you! Bottled in January 2011, and poured into a DFH signature glass.

Pours a dark brown, nearly black body with less than a centimeter of beige head. There’s some nice strands of bubbles that sift through the surface of the liquid, but there is little-to-no retention of the head itself. Tiny, scattered patches of bubbles remain as lacing. The aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee grounds, caramel, and toasted/burned sugar. Some dark fruits come together in the rear. The taste is of dark fruit, molasses, a touch of milk chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and a hoard of cane sugar. The sugar carries over into the mouth, where is leaves a very sticky, resinous finish to the seemingly thinner beer. Overall, a decent stout, but it seems to have an overpowering sugar sensation that is not quite balanced with the rest of the flavors.

Poured into a Deschutes stem from a 12 ounce bottle.

A: Pours nearly black with a light tan head that quickly settles to a thin lace on the surface. Lacing runs slowly down the side of the glass, but leaves little in its tracks.

S: Mainly roasty notes on the nose, with some coffee and chocolate notes.

T: Much more going on than the aroma. Toast and espresso, along with a sweet note of cream and some toffee. Dark fruit lingers in the background, and the finish is rather dry and bitter.

Notes: This is one of my favorite stouts Bell's has to offer. Full-bodied, and rich in flavor, yet very well-balanced. It has superb drinkability, and pulls off a style of beer that normally calls for other ingredients to give it the flavor and mouthfeel it has.

A - Pours a dark brown with highlights of auburn/red. There wasn't a ton of head in the pour, but what was there was creamy for a bottle pour.

S - Smells of dark malts. There is definitely the complexity that Bell's describes in this beer for the malts. There's more than just hte

T - Until I read Bell's description of this beer, I would have thought that it was a true lacto stout. The beer has the milky character of a cream stout, without the sickening sweetness that typically follows.

M - Creaminess is the main factor in the mouthfeel. The beer fills the mouth without being over-carbonated. I appreciate the mouthfeel of this beer, as it feels like a good milk stout, without actually being a milk stout.

Overall, this is a cool beer. Much like a chocolate stout that uses no chocolate, I like that this beer can achieve the aspects of a milk stout without anything added in. A great sitting beer and one that gets better as it warms.

Poured from a bottle into a gold rimmed tulip, the appearance is black with a slight almond colored head. It looks good and somewhat intimidating, like it's going to punch you in the face.

The smell was so-so. I get coffee, some bitter cocoa, just a little roasted note, and booze. There's a higher pitched scent in there as well that I can't put my finger on but is a nice hint.

The taste is great. I love this beer. It's malty and toasty. I'm really feeling some coffee with this beer, far more pronounced than the nose. Slight hints of chocolate and a really wonderful bitterness throughout.

S- Lots of roast comes through, some slight straw scent in the background

T- roasted malts come through, with a slight cream flavor

M- feel seems to match the beer perfectly, it's not too thick, not to thin, carbonation is right.

O- Another solid offering from Bell's. A nice stout that hasn't been imperialized, just a nice brew. Very drinkable, a good stout to intro someone to the style.
