Pours a deep black chocolate brown-black. There is no light coming through this baby. Nice creamy beige-brown head that sits at about 1/4 inch when reduced. Thick lacing. Nice coffee and toffee flavoring. Toasted and roasted. You taste more chocolate as it warms up. The flavor that lingers on is one of mostly coffee. Thick, rich, full bodied, nice and lightly creamy. A very good tasty brew.

Cryptic 6236 label designation noting 10 malts, offers up a BELL’S Special Double Cream Stoudt.

Steeped pour in me pint with a crater-of-the-moon dark tan almost brown head. BELL’S Double Cream Stoudt is the color of used motor oil and midnight dark with zero light getting thru. Lace cleanly skids down the glass doing nothing in between.

I am not sure what the difference is between Double Cream and ordinary Stout but this has all of the quality characteristics of a good Stout.

Not a whole heck of a lot of nose here. Rather a basic dark roasted malts meeting afterscents of sweet hops and honey.

Dark chocolate hits me first followed by roasty malts with a disciplined reserved bitterness in the flavor to boot. A well balanced dark coffee roaster with a back bite of creaminess and a smooth silky feel.

Last swigs: Big hitter in the Stout mouth, well maintained obligatory trite roast adjectives with a sweet floral honey nose. Black as a rural midnight cornfield. Whew! Once again, its drinkability suffers at the altar of a powerful punch. In a perfect world, this is a 5/5 drinker but no way can these go down all day long after battening down the hatches or putting up shelves.

Beer is good. Happy dark beering.

Nice chocolate malt aroma with a light coffee undertone. Dark walnut colored head pours nice and thick. Head fades slowly to a thick film resting on the deep black beer. Soft, smooth mouthfeel in a solid bodied beer. Chocolate, roasted malt, and cream combine for a nice flavor. It finished mildly bitter, just enough to make you want another sip. Cellar temperature serving highly recommended.

Appearance: Black with lots of yeasty chunks. Gotta give these Bell’s beers a careful pour if you want them clean. Good thing I don’t mind the yeasties. Aggressive pour yielded a fairly small, white head that skimmed to nothing. Clinging lace.

Smell: Roasty and astringent, with the dark malts in the forefront. Very rich and luxurious, like a warm piece of chocolate cake, with definite java influence.

Taste: Very, very nice. Initially slightly sweet, with a soft, mouth-filling body. Glides down the throat with no hint of off flavor. Prickly carbonation hits the tongue, then the creaminess washes away any harshness that may have been present. Finishes only moderately dry, with a slight leafy hop afterthought. Only a slight chalkiness as it warms.

Probably my favorite Bell’s thus far. Thanks feloniousmonk!

Sweet malt rich Significant roast, Coffee with lots of cream. My first not last milk stout. Easy on carbonation a plus. Mid-sip fruitiness from yeast. Black pour. Altogether balance. . Labelled a winter beer but would be satisfying anytime.
Had again 2.5 years later and in perspective it is very good, but not as overwhelmed as initially.

Deep brown colored beer, with a big gingerbread colored head, with moderate retention. Smells of coffee, chocolate, cream, and very sweet. taste is deeply saturated with roasted malt, lots of them. Bittersweet chocolate, and agood-sized hops finish. This is a big beer. No sessioning here, this is dessert all the way.

Pours out a dark reddish-brown, sits very dark brown, almost completely opaque in the glass. Big, dark tan head on top that leaves some nice lace around the glass.

Smells strongly of roasted malts, and sweet cream and chocolate. Not too much on the nose, but nothing to complain about.

Tastes mainly of roasted malts, and lots of them. Some chocolatey hues and mild earthy/wooden flavors emerge, followed closely by a strong and deeply penetrating bitterness.

A strong, bold stout, with a smooth and creamy body. Great carbonation, and a big, full bodied presence. This is no weakling's beer. Good drinking, but I fear the bitterness may catch up with me; good for a stout session.

Mocha aroma, distinct but not heavy, small head, strong but mellow cream coffee taste, almost like a cappacino, like a fine malted Starbucks concoction, and just as expensive as one. Wonderful brew. I had to bump this guy's appearance because the bottle is so good looking. It reminds me of some really great pen and ink drawings of loney oak trees where I grew up. The beer pours a dark brown (not black) and has a inch head with some really nice retention. It stuck around.

The smell is oh so sweet. Double cream? You bet. Sweet milky sugars and cake batter crawl out. Light choco but not exactly.

Taste is good. There's an ease with drinking this, and it goes away pretty fast. Very sweet aftertaste. Creamy for sure. Tiny roast notes in the aftertaste. If there are hops, they didn't send me the memo. Here's a metaphor: I like my coffee black. This reminds me of when someone goes out to get coffees for everyone and fucks up and brings mine back with 2 creamers and sugar in it. It's rich and sweet, but that's really not the way I take it. The depth of the alcohol is so hidden though, it needs props for the mystery they've created in that department.

Mouthfeel: Ok. Not real thick, nor should it be. Nice weight and minimal cloying after the sip.

Drinkability: Again, just ok. Beers like this let the taste dictate their drinkability. There's nothing wrong with it, maybe a little heavy in the gut afterwards, but it goes down easy and is satisfying. I just think I'd keep myself to one a night, or a year. Try it, at least it's different.

Very dark black beer with a foamy brown head. As the head faded it left a dark tan lacing all the way down the sides of the glass. It smelled of lots of roasted malt with a hint of chocolate. There was a well balanced roasted malt flavor with slight bitterness. The mouthfeel was light and creamy smooth. A very enjoyable and drinkable beer.

12 oz bottle, no dating. Black as night, dark tan head, tiny bubble head melts down to a film, lots o' lace. Nose is of sweet fruit, vanilla and burnt malt in background. Lucious mouthfeel, this a sweet nectar of the stout gods. Notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, biscuits and roasted malts. As the bottle advertizes this one boasts a soft roasty finish. More fine stuff from Bells, I wish my wife brought a case of this stuff home instead of a sixer!

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with a code of the back label that could be possibly be some sort of freshness date.

Appearance: Super foamy but not gushing, the froth had no problem at all sticking on every inch of the glass. Black with evident brown hues on the edges.

Smell: Smells pungent of cream soda extract with a vague roasted malt in the back.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Slick and creamy mouth feel off of a heavy body, smooth crispness. Sweet up front, you would swear they put a bucket of cream soda extract in this brew. The sweetness soon gets hit by some hops bitterness and a straight-up roasted grain flavor. A bite from the alcohol hits the palate with a spiciness. Slightly astringent finish and on the dry side as well.

Notes: Big and bold with jabs of complexity, this is certainly not for a weak palate. An above average sweet stout … nothing close to some of the imported or Island sweet stouts.

seriously black in color with slight ruby highlights when held to the light. creamy full tan head of foam that subsides for the most part, but still manages to stick around. aromas of roasted oats and a dariy-like sweet cream aroma. interesting. rich and full bodied, lightly carbonated. nice roasted barley in the beginning followed by a big dollop of sweetness. the sweetness is pronounced, but not cloying in any way. finishes with more of a long burnt flavor and just a touch of leafy flavor. i don't have much experience with sweet stouts, but this one seems pretty solid. one was enough for me, however, the sweetness did sort of get to me in the end. worth a shot for sure though.

Black with light brown borders, topped by a light chocolate brown head that appears soft and deflates to a thick film on the surface of the beer. Lace is limited to small sheets and assorted scraps. The nose is of roasted malt with undercurrents of vanilla and coffee.

Special Double Cream Stout is enjoyable and has plenty of dark roasted malt to go around. Coffee is more aggressive on the palate and vanilla is still present as well. The beer seems both sweet and dry at the same time, with a long, mellow, slightly hoppy finish.

Mouthfeel is exactly what it should be for a sweet stout. It isn't as heavy or as viscous as an Imperial stout, more along the lines of an oatmeal stout. It falls just short of smooth and creamy... and the bubbles are fine.

Bell's Special Double Cream Stout is another good beer from a very good brewery. It's a step or two down from Expedition Stout in terms of intensity. As a result, it seems more drinkable.

I thought Bell's Kazoo stout was nearly opaque, but then I got ahold of this one. Can't think of another stout I've tried that let so little light through. Very impressive!

Smell was quite nice, with no jarring notes, but the real forte of this brew was the taste. Complex, with a malty sweetness that didn't cloy at all.

A truly fine, big beer, whose only "minus" would be limited drinkability (well, that and the price: $11.99 per 6). I can't imagine downing more than two or three of these in an evening - but that would be a most pleasant winter evening indeed!

Pours pitch black with a dense tan head.

Aroma is rich coffee beans, dark chocolate, and roasted malts.

Flavor is heavy on the coffee, with a decent bit of bitter dark chocolate. The roasted malts mellow towards the middle of the glass and the chocolate comes out to play a little more. It finishes slightly sweet but plenty creamy.

The mouthfeel is smooth, slick and creamy. The body is rich and the carbonation is calm and unimportant.

Drinkability is okay, it's a great brew but it's heavy, thick and I have a hard time drinking multiple roasted brews like this one.

Rich roasted coffee dominates, yet a distinctive sweet creamy tone present.

Good coffee and chocolate balanced with a nice rich sweetness. Well done for a sweet stout.

Rich, coating, and a good long lingering finish. Not too heavy, but very flavorful.

Man, I can drink this all day long! Flavorful and rich, but not too heavy. A tremendous stout from a great brewery. Seek this one out.

No bottling date. My first beer from this brewer. Poured dark as dark as a black cat in a dark room at midnight. Topped with a small tan head. Rich and complex aroma of reminds me of chocolate butter creams. The taste is delightful and very rich. Roasted nuts, bittersweet chocolates and coffee. This beer would match perfectly with a rich chocolate dessert, or raspberry cheesecake. No bitterness detected and the alcohol just manages to show itself towards the end of the glass, when the beer finally warms up a bit. It’s well hidden otherwise. A beautifully rich and potent beer.

Pours a dark, nearly black liquid, with a wonderful dark tan creamy frothy head. The head on this beer alone was one of the most appealing I have ever seen. This beer smells of dark roasted coffee beans, nearly burnt. The taste is somewhat sweet with a hint of almost burnt coffee. This is very smooth and creamy. This is a pretty drinkable beer. I feel fortunate to have been able to have this on draft, as I know the bottles can be somewhat expensive, and well, we know the track record for Bell's bottles. If you are a stout lover, this is certainly worth a try.

Double Cream pours out characteristically black with a medium amount of head. Smell is strong and roasty with a touch of chocolate to go along with.

Taste is wonderfully creamy, like Kazoo Stout (coffee and roast backbone) but with a lot more creaminess added to it, and of course, a proper hit of chocolate.

Mouthfeel is decent, not full bodied to the extreme, but adequate while the drinkability is good, largely because the extra creamy flavour makes it finish easier.

Overall, this is an interesting second take on Kazoo Stout. It basically takes a very solid year around, and then polishes it up a little, trading the heavier roasted edge of the standard for a creamier, smoother flavour. I like them both.

I pour this brew into a snifter I have taken to for sampling.
The brew pours very dark brown and allows almost no light through.
A very thin tan head foams up with a little coaxing.
The aroma is very mild with chocolate and faint roasty hints coming through.
The flavor is rich and chocolatey with roasty malt flavors. The finish is slightly bitter but not from hops but a coffee bitter. Although this bitterness is very gentle and easily missed.
The carbonation is soft and the body is thick. This is a very tasty stout and I am glad to get a bottle of it. Give it a shot if you see it!

As I opened this beer, my wife said, "Oooohh! Pretty label!" Even with a rather agressive pour, this beer poured very flat but did manage to build about a half inch of frothy head. This has been pretty typical of the beer I've tried from Bell. This beer is dark, no light was getting through. The head was tan and faded fast but hung around the edge like wall flowers. The nose was very subtle with chocolate malt tones. The taste was a little thin, not what I was expecting. The flavor was mild as well but then again, a lot of stouts don't really explode with flavor. This beer is very mellow and demands that you take your time with it. It finishes nice with a bit of a mocha flavor and more chocolate. I probably would've rated this beer a bit higher if it were a bit more active from the pour and I'd like to taste it a little more chewy.

Light, flash-in-the-pan phead the fades to a ring of foam around the edges but stirs up easily with a small swirl. Chocolate and char on the nose. The flavor has an odd dry powdery flavor (can't quite describe it actually), that seems to intertwine itself with the chocolate malt flavors to give the impression of a mouthfull of cocoa powder. A bit milky in the flavor. I really imagined a stout called Double Cream to be a bit thicker, but it's not exactly thin. Definitely improves as it warms.

Anyone figure out that label? Dark chestnut color with a light brown fine-bubbled head. Oily lacing hangs around the inside of the glass. An inch high head slowly recedes, but leaves darker brown caps of foam rising out of a few spots. When held to the light, reddish-brown particles are seen suspended. Aroma of cocoa and faint hops, perhaps a hint of raisin. Rich flavor of sweet cocoa, bitter chocolate, tart cherry, piney hops, raisin and espresso. Some molasses, but not an overly roasted malt character. Chalky residual feel around the mouth, with some definite tingling from the combination of hops and bitter chocolate and coffee. Has almost an imperial feel to it.

Pours an opaque black with a frothy espresso colored head.
Smells quite nicely of coffee and chocolate. Smells almost a little sweet.

Tastes just incredibly smooth. Like cocoa beer. Lots of big dark cafe flavors mingle nicely with the cream to make a super smooth and sweet stout. Mouthfeel is rather big and the carbonation is held at bay. Ends just a scant bit hoppy. If this were local I'd drink it everyday. Beautiful.
