Notes/Commercial Description:
Double Cream Stout derives its name from its smooth, creamy texture, not the ingredients. Completely dairy-free, this stout blends ten different specialty malts to yield a remarkable depth of flavor. With only a touch of burnt notes, Double Cream Stout focuses on the softer, cocoa & espresso-like aspects of roasted malt.

Serving: 12oz bottle poured into a Samuel Smith's nonic pint glass

A: Nearly black in color; the slightest of mahogany highlights shine through near top of the glass; 1 finger mocha-colored head recedes quickly; lacing glides down sides of the glass

S: Roasted malts mingling with dark bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee; a woodsy note lingers through the middle; as it warms more of the dark chocolate comes out along with hints of dark fruits (raisin-like)

T: Starts with a roasted malt twang that quickly gives way to bittersweet dark chocolate and a fainter dried dark fruit note (like raisins or prunes) though these flavor are not as prominent as the nose suggests; mid sip the roasted malts regain control, with a medium-roast coffee bean flavor and burnt toast showing the most promise; finish sees roasted undertones competing while a nutty/earthy, dark bready malt flavor (akin to stale brown bread loaf) stays on the palate

M: Oily/slick but not overly thick; fine carbonation

O: A solid stout from Bell's. While it's not their best stout, nor my favorite from their lineup, this is still quite a pleasant offering that features a nice depth of roasted flavors. Easy to drink and enjoy.

Reviewed from notes 11/20/12

Pours black with 2 inch khaki brown head.
smells strongly of roasted malts and sweet mocha.
taste is great, very smooth, rich and sweet but not overly sweet at all, reminds me somewhat of st. peters cream stout, leaves silky after taste on the palate. simple yet delish!!
