TheLongBeachBum was generous enough to share a bottle of this beer with me during my most recent visit to SoCal, on a cool rainy evening. Yep, I said rainy. Anyway, this was the beer to keep me warm.
This beer was BLACK, like strong espresso, with a brownish thick espresso-looking foam on top. Looks like a good one to me!
Smells very roasty, a bit like espresso with maybe a shot of caramel syrup in it. Very enticing. Strong roasted burnt sugar. Tastes like the finest darkest roasted coffee beans covered in dark chocolate. Chocolate really comes through in the taste, a nice surprise since I didn't get any chocolate in the aroma. It also certainly doesn't taste like a 12% beer, but you get a touch of alcohol in the finish.
Mouthfeel is a bit thick but not syrupy, and nicely carbonated to make it a smooth drinking beer. Very nice. Drinkability is good, if you like strong coffee and dark chocolate, but with the rich flavor and high alcohol, this is definitely a sipping beer.
Thanks again to The Bum for sharing this fine brew with me!!

Thanks to Dan for sharing this bottle.
Pours pitch black with no head. Looks like moderate thickness, maybe slightly on the thin side. Tiny bit of caramel coloring at the edges.
Smell is really sweet, vanilla, cherry, milk chocolate, licorice, molasses. Definitely smells oxidized, but nice.
Taste is licorice, slight bitterness, chocolate, molasses, oxidation.
Mouthfeel is medium thickness, very slight carbonation. Slick, slightly oil.
This beer is very sweet, but tasty. I can't help but think it's past its prime, however. Would have liked to try this fresh. At this point it is frankly a bit cloying, and difficult to drink more than 4-5 ounces.
