Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Bottled on 09/18/13.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy yellowish golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Huge four finger white head that slowly fades into a thinner creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A very wheat, yeast, and spice driven aroma with good hints of sweet fruits. Upfront wheat and hefeweizen yeast along with pale malt and hints of grains, straw, crackers, and biscuit. Spicy hints of clove, peppers, and coriander. Big hints of banana along with some bubblegum and apple. Sweet hints of candied sugar. Citrus fruit hints of lemon zest, orange, pineapple, and apricot. A pretty good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a wheat and yeast driven hefeweizen like taste with big notes of spice and fruit. Big presence of wheat and hefewiezen yeast upfront. Pale malt with notes of straw, grains, crackers, caramel, and biscuit. Big taste of spices with notes of clove, peppers, and coriander. Taste of bananas, bubblegum, and some apple. Candied sugar adds some sweetness. Citrus fruit notes of orange peel, lemon zest, pineapple, and apricot. A very good zesty taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Creamy, spicy, fruity, and pretty smooth. Drying finish. Alcohol is hidden well.

Overall: A very good take on a wheat beer. Don't have much experience with wheatwines but this is a really good hef like brew. Good mix of wheat, spice, and fruits.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/13/2013. Pours very hazy deep gold color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big banana, apricot, pear, orange, apple, clove, wheat, bread, pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of banana, apricot, pear, apple, orange, clove, wheat, bread, pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppery spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of banana, apricot, pear, orange, apple, wheat, bread, pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and pale malt flavors; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice beer. More of a weizenbock in flavor; but has all around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and pale malt flavors; and is very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
