Pours a medium gold color with a massive white head with lasting power. Leaves sheets of lacing in the tulip glass I've poured this into. The nose is really quite fruity - perhaps mango, citrus and a touch of banana. This is offset by a strong wheat and Belgian yeast backbone. The palate is true to the nose, with the addition of sweet honey and candi sugar notes. This beer borders on cloying. There are some slight accents of clove-like spice and white pepper here too, as you might expect. The mouthfeel is medium and the alcohol is apparent here - finished sweet. I like this beer in and of itself, but it's not entirely what I expected. To me, this is more closely related to a Belgian-style tripel in many ways. Bell's is a terrific brewery and I know this beer will also gain some complexity with time in the cellar. I'll be sure and save a few bottles for the months and years ahead. A good, high-gravity offering from a great brewery!
