Bell's goes Belgian...
Looks very murky with the slow-motion yeast working through it. A few fingers of foam rise and fall, leaving a constant skim. Spots and webs of lace.
Banana esters when the bottle is first opened, but this subsides and a spicy wheat combo takes over the nose.
Very smooth and wheaty feel, only hindered by the dry, tacky coriander spice as it warms up. Served cold, it's flawless in my opinion. A tart orange citrus arrives in the first sips, with big malt and wheat to back it up. Hidden abv, but you feel it after two. Pretty spicy, more than my personal preference, but it's big all around. No mild or subtle elements, this is a hugely fresh and in-your-face Wit. Maybe not as spritzy or zesty as it could be, but with a high abv, it's understandable.
I've tried a couple of authentically Belgian "Imperial" Witbiers (Jan de Lichte, Grande Blanche) and this can stand up against them. It falls a hair shy of the reigning champion, Southampton Double White.
