reddish amber, burnt sienna in color/ cloudy with a small whispy offwhite head that left a light coating on the sides and bottom of the glass.

oak with a light funk are pressing here. Some light spice and as it warms up lots of cherries coming at me now. Cherries from the start, very nice. light oak and woody notes press in mid palate and as it warms a nice touch of spice starts to come through, almost peppery at times. Some light apple vinegar like flavor in the finish as a dry finish fades off.

Enjoyed at a recent tasting hosted by hoppymcgee.

Pours a bright fall orange/light brown color with fizzy light off white head.

Aromas begin with lots of white vinous grapes. Golden apples, pears and a Champagne effervescence.

The tastes are highlighted by a dry, earthy oakiness. I am looking for more but the flavors are fairly one dimentional. As it warms you get a little more with some sour tart cherries and light lemon. These are very tart. A big vinegar and acidic flavor.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The finish is very tart and bone dry; really really crisp and drying on the palate. Too dry to be honest for me.

Overall this was an okay beer but the base malt flavor profile didn't quite meld with the intense drying oak flavors. Not bad by any means, but not one I will be seeking out anytime soon. The small sample was enough to know this was not my cup of tea.

Served on tap in a cervoise at the Great Taste of the Midwest.

Appearance: My pour is an amber raspberry color with a delicate fluffy white head. The head bubbles away, but a little bit of lace sticks on the side of the glass.

Smell: Lots of lactic sourness and some Brett in the nose. Some cherry notes, and a little bit of musty oak as well.

Taste: This is a good example of what I look for in a sour mash beer. Some light sweetness up front, but the flavor becomes progressively more sour. Tart and refreshing, with lactic acid undertones and a general berry fruit sour flavor. The finish has a light, lingering sour flavor.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is on the lighter side, but combined with the sour flavor, it has some zing to it. Crisp, a little bit vinegary, and refreshing. Medium bodied.

Overall: I was impressed by Bell's wild ale venture. With the flurry of beers served at this event, it was hard to sit down and really enjoy it, but I hope to be able to have it again.

Had this on-tap at the Brick Store Pub awhile ago. Reviewing from notes. My understanding is that this is a blend of the brown ale mixed with wheat wort and then aged in barrels. In a sense then, this is more of a sourmash beer, similar to a couple of other ones that I've had. I have to say, though, this one delivers and takes things a bit further. Pours a beautiful chestnut color with nice clarity- it has a glow to it. Slight head, but for what the beer is, that seems excusable. Very tart with lactic and brett notes in the nose. Fresh and appetizing, the aromas definitely invite you to dive in. Some spiciness in the finish. It's been said that these wheat sourmash beers are America's version of a Beriner Weiss, and there is a lot of truth to that. It certainly shares some characteristics with one and perhaps that's even a better classification than an American sour. The taste is similar to the smell. Just the right amount of zesty fruit, light spice, and tartness. Crisp and very quenching. I certainly enjoyed this.
