Extremely grateful to Kaveman for hooking me up with this bottle. Pouring it into a Spiegelau tulip glass at around 40F.
Brilliant clear orange golden body with 2 fingers of off-white head with great retention and lacing.
Smells of lemony, piney, clean hops, not much sweetness, a little orange pulp, not a powerfully strong aroma.
Taste is complex. Up front sweet malt is definitely present, pine and citrus hop flavor washes in to balance. As the beer reaches the back of my tongue it hits scorchingly bitter notes. Lingers with abrasive bitterness and some residual alcoholic warming heat.
Mouthfeel is on the high end of medium, almost full, definitely sticky, dry finish, carbonation is moderate and appropriate, a great feel to this huge DIPA.
Overall I had a tough time tying this beer together cause there's actually a lot going on. It's big in every sense; very bitter, very sweet, very alcoholic. It's almost impossible to perfectly balance a beer when so many features are exaggerated, but I will say if this had more hop flavor and aroma it could be improved. However, it is definitely one of the most bitter DIPAs I've ever tasted, so for someone looking for the biggest bitter hop bombs, this is definitely a must try.
