12oz bottle poured into a Bell's Tulip glass.
The beer pours a hazy, orange copper color, only a bubble or two rising to the top of the glass with a soft, billowy white head that has fantastic retention and leaves a vast network of soapy lace behind, a really beautiful beer to look at. The aroma just leaps out of the glass, devastating amounts of pine, really sappy and resinous, perfectly earthy with some grassiness and crisp hop spice, a bit of tangy grapefruit is in there as well with some bright pineapple, but make no mistake, this is one piney and beautiful beer. The flavors are right in line, this beer is punishing with the earthy pine, wonderfully bitter, nice layers of lemongrass and tangy grapefruit, oily and crisp hop spiciness, tropical fruit is towards the end, very strong ripe pineapple with some rich malt flavor that lends just a touch of sweetness to help balance the beer out a bit. The mouthfeel is great, really juicy, lively zip from the carbonation but it feels very smooth, the finish is a bit creamy as it goes down, smooth and gentle before a massive dry kick punches the mouth.
Verdict: Awesome. Just awesome. Easily the best hoppy beer I've had from Bell's and easily one of the best hoppy beers in the midwest. Crushing amounts of earthy pine and beautiful bitterness really makes this a special treat. I typically enjoy IPAs that are softer and more delicate, but this is absolutely fantastic.
