Poured this into a mug! Pours very dark brown with about an inch of frothy tan head. Smells pretty good. I sometimes wish I would know nothing about a beer before I smell and taste it because all I can smell is licorice and molasses. Not bad smells, but there's gotta be more to this. Lot's of licorice indeed. Not my favorite smelling beer, the amount of licorice I'm smelling is close to being off putting. Taste reveals nothing more than what I read on the label. Lot's of licorice and just enough sweetness from molasses to be a warm tasty treat. Rich toffee lingers on my tongue on the finish. Good mouth feel, I like the heaviness of this beers style. This is a sipper. It took me a while to put down due to the heaviness and the sweetness. I guess I would have like to see the sweetness toned down. Also, the 12.5 abv is very well hidden.
