Served in a Dogfish Head snifter.
Pours a nearly jet black, darkly opaque, with a whisp of white head that dissolves into near nothingess shortly. From a distance, the smell has a sweet chocolate and vanilla smell; upon closer inspection, more scents come through, including minty anise, maple syrup, and even some hoppiness as well. The taste begins with a bitter chocolate mixed with vanilla and finishes with a strange but intriguing blend of deep maple syrup (I assume from the molasses) and licorice. It isn't everyday that a brew's flavor matches the listed ingredients so closely, but this one surely does. The body is lurking toward heavy, but does not quite make it there. The velvety smoothness helps to even further increase the drinkability.
