Brewed and only available on-tap at Bell's Eccentric Cafe, this 'experimental pale ale' is brewed with 3-6-9 hops (perhaps an experimental/hybrid hop)

Appearance: Pours golden orange color, very clear, minimal white head dissipates nearly instantly.

Smell: Moderate malts with very light hop aroma and hints of citrus.

Taste: Predominant light malt flavor with hints of citrus/grapefruit. Slight pine/floral notes, otherwise minimal hop flavor, but definite lasting bitter, almost tart, finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation, dry tackiness on finish that stays with you.

Overall: Great pale(ish) ale from Bell's Brewery! Slight citrus aroma, and wheat and grapefruit flavors start off right with a lasting bitter finish, making for a highly drinkable, clean and crisp ale. I would have liked slightly more floral hop nose and flavor, but a delicious brew nonetheless. Get some while you can!

Pretty good APA - mild hop nose, big citrus appearance, and a great mouthfeel. Apparently this is brewed without a hop addition in the boil - the hops are added by "straining" the hot wort through whole hops, or so the bartender told me. The 3-6-9 varietal is a hybrid hop that is being grown for the first time in the US. It is still officially unnamed.

The specifics are fuzzy, but thats the gist of what I heard. I'd like to hear more details!

Experimental Pale Ale brewed with 369 Hops. I am guess that the 369 Hops are an experimental varietal and not the number of hops.

Clean and clear orange body, free of sediment and haze. Soft one finger bone white head recedes quickly. Relatively no lacing.

Subtle citrus fruitiness is overwhelmed by pith and pine. Every once in a while you will get a strong whiff of citrus but it is followed up by more pithy aroma. Soft malt base, very clean not a lot of caramel or residual sweetness in the nose.

The flavor is reminiscent of a small Oracle or a close cousin of Daisy Cutter. Dry soft malt but very much hop forward. Pine and pith flavors are dominate but some citric sweetness pops there here and there.

Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. The finish is rather dry and pleasant.

Very good APA, my favorite from Bell's. To be honest this sit up there with the better APAs I have had. Very tasty and easy to drink, a few in a sitting would not be out of the question.
