On tap at the Eccentric Cafe on 7/21/12

A) Watery golden brown. Poured no head and no lace,. At least it's clear, right?

S) Smoke mixes with grains and hints of earthy hops. It smells like a random lager in a smokey pool hall or back-bar poker game.

T) While the smoke is still notable, the beer retains the cleanliness of the malt and hops. It has a slight bitterness. The base beer actually seems rather good.

M) On the lighter side of medium body. Feel-wise, the only down side for me is the fussy, overdone carbonation. The finish is clean, if but a little bit coating.

D) Not too shabby overall. The perceptibility of the smoke falls off after a short time which allows the base beer more wiggle room.

@ Busy Bee

Clear coppery color with a small, bubbly covering. Smells of smoke and nutty, toasted, pale malts. Lighter smoke in the flavor, though a little meatier. Nuts, toast, light spice from the hops, just a little sweetness. Clean and medium-light. Not a smoke bomb like some Rauchbiers, but it's definitely there. Nicely done...

Served on-draught into a Summit pilsner glass at the Muddy Pig in St. Paul. Reviewed from notes taken around Thanksgiving 2012.

A: Pours a half finger beige colour of average retention. Colour is a clear vibrant copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Rauch bacon smoke. Pale malts. Vienna malts. An average strength aroma.

T: Vienna malts, tame bacon and smoke character, crisp full-bodied barley, and a crisp clean pale malt finish. Nicely balanced for a rauchbier. Even a bit tame. Built well.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Good carbonation and thickness. Suits the flavours nicely.

Dr: Very drinkable for the style - which is a tough one to pull off. Rarely are smokey notes so subtle. A solid rauchbier/Vienna lager from Bell's. Tasty and enjoyable. I'd have it again.

High B-

A-Hazy straw color with a thick white head.
S-Mmm. Breast malt with a good amount of smokiness.
T-Fair amount of smoke right away. Not to strong not to light. Followed up by perfect bread like malt finish.
M-Wonderfully smooth and creamy.

Overall- I'm a sucker for smoke beers but had never had one quite like this. It was way better than I expected.
